I am flailing here, but since the behavior is for only one machine, it MIGHT BE the 3D window settings.....
here are the least disruptive window settings.

<T>When I generate a new 3d window it pops up, thinks and shows me what I want to see. Now I want to move around in there so I pan or shift/click/drag to rotate the building, as soon as I start to move around it regenerates all over again. After this second regen I can move around all I want. Regen time is painful enough, where is this second regen coming from. This is with multiple files but doesn't act this way on other computers.
Any similar situations or solutions?</T>

Good flail. It was the auto-rebuild when activated. I guess moving the model was "activation" causing a rebuild.

Thanks Dwight.
