Thanks for the response.

>This is controlled in Magic Wand settings which, apparently, you have
>set to eight segments. Change this to a greater number like 36 or 72.
Holy convoluted interfaces, Batman!
How odd. Where would I find this setting? I don't see it in preferences or work environment. Clicking the control box icon does nothing.

>The word "oval" has no precise definition.
>Do you mean a half ellipse, or some other shape.
>There is a skylight object called "Ox-eye window" that you might use.

Sorry, I mean ellispe. The Ox-eye is close, but not close enough.

Is profiler an addon? I see trussmaker, but not profiler in my package.

>>
>It has been recommended not to use the roof tool
to make barrel vault roofs. Use Profiler or TrussMaker
and SEO with the Profiler object or the TrussMaker object
as target and the roof as operator with downward extrusion.
Check out this thread. <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... aker#56352">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=56352&highlight=trussmaker#56352</LINK_TEXT>

You can edit the hole cut in the roof after you make the
hole by selecting each edge of the hole with the roof tool selected
and selecting the edge angle pet pallet item. Here you can set
the edge angle to be perpendicular, vertical, or custom.

<T>I'm trying to model an oval dormer as stated above. I seem to have 3 problems.
1. Trying to model the dormer roof I used the barrel vault roof. The problem with it is that it does not look at all round, much less like a half oval.
2. The hole I cut in the main roof is punched like a vertical extrusion. This is unrealistic.
3. I cannot create a clean intersection between the dormer and the main roof.

Can anyone help, or is my task beyond ArchiCAD ability to model?</T>

Jesse,
Your barrel vault roof has only four little roofs.
You want enough little roofs to make it appear more curved.
set to eight segments. Change this to a greater number like 36 or 72.
Magic wand settings are in the Tools menu.

Profiler is an add-on. It should be in a sub-folder inside the
the Add-ons folder. If it isn't there then it is in the Goodies folder
and should be moved to a sub-folder in the Add-ons folder.
I did, but it neither fit my roof nor looked appropriate. My problem with most library parts is that they are too generic. I do highend custom residential work, and am unhappy with the excessive approximation that most library parts convey.

I don't have the time nor the inclination to use GDL. I'm an architect and artist, not a programmer. I have tried programming. It is not for me. I think spatially.
If I had maxonform I would use it, but our firm cannot afford such a package on top of the already high expense of AC. To my thinking, a complete set of easy to use 3d modeling tools should already be included in AC for the high price they ask.

There are many who agree with you and this is what led to the (recent) development of MaxonForm.

This article by GS CEO Dominic Gallello may promise of more to come. We'll see...

Profiler is only active in plan view (it appear greyed out in section and 3d windows)
I tried making my object in plan, but now it needs to be rotated along the y axis to be correctly oriented.
How is this possible in ArchiCAD without the Objective addon?

Save it as a library part. I am to tired to go into the details right now, but I think the method is covered in the manual (it is certainly in the GDL cookbook). The nice bit about this is that you can place multiple copies of the truss and then edit and resave from the original source and all the instances will update.
