<T>Greetings-

I have been trying to download a copy of Spancalc 2002, a free timber span calculation tool but the .FTP sites are all unaccessible, or just flat gone. I just want to use this as a reference tool, nothing more really, not enough to purchase a program. I was hoping someone out there has a copy they could email me ....................please. Unless there's something better out there?

Hi Randy,

Thanks for the reply. I was actually looking for a non-engineered span calculator though. Some more "googleing" gave these results:

http://www.wwpa.org/techguide/suite.htm a downloadable excel based program and the online Span Calc, which is definitely a limited tool.

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.awc.org/calculators/span/rev ... an+Options">http://www.awc.org/calculators/span/reversecalc/reversecalc.asp?feet=12&inches=8&species=Douglas+Fir-Larch+%28North%29&species=Hem-Fir+%28North%29&member=Floor+Joist&deflectionlimit=L%2F360&spacing=16&liveload=40&snowload=-1&deadload=10&wet=No&incised=No&submit=Calculate+Span+Options</LINK_TEXT>

As well Truss Joist suplies these:

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.trusjoist.com/EngSite/softwa ... ory2ID=187">http://www.trusjoist.com/EngSite/software/index.cfm?Software=XDL&CategoryID=2&SubCategoryID=79&SubCategory2ID=187</LINK_TEXT>

you could then try the online calculator from the Candaian Wood Council --- which is only for U.S. spans (not applicable to Canada)
this gives joists , rafters and headers
