I read a previous post that indicated the existing roof had to be selected first. I tried that, then select the roof surface, then tried to place it at a highlighted node. The program goes directly to a pet palette, and "reposition node". If I hit all the nodes, which seems logical, it erases the existing roof and does not replace it with anything.

Should I be using something different in the palette? Or is there some other process. Nothing in the help menu.

Thanks,

<T>Acan anyone give me a quick tip on how the roof surfacer works? Apparently, it does not work like a roof polygon, but an abject that comes in as a sheet. I can't find how to give it the values of my roof. The dimensions in the dialogue box don't seem to have an impact on the actual size of the unit. And how do I eliminate the hole in the middle of it.

I can't stretch it either.

Thanks.
Hi Tom -

You must select the roof that you want to "apply" the roof surfacer to first, then go to Extras-->Accessories-->Roof Accessories and roof surfacer. The object that is created is "linked" to the roof selected thus when the roof is stretched, the roof surfacer updates to the roof's new shape etc... I'm not an expert w/this tool though - maybe someone else can add things I've missed.

hope that helps,
Did you have the roof plane selected when you originally created the roof surface? If so, it should be directly linked to the roof itself. When you stretch the roof, there is no need to select the roof surface as well, it will automaticly update to fit the new roof shape.

Selected the roof surface, then selected objects, and roof surfacer. When I get that done, I go back to the plan. The info box asks for the corner of the object. I give it a corner, it goes to the palette, no result.

If it's directly linked with no additonal input from me when the surface object is created, where does it go? It's not showing up anywhere on my drawing that I can tell, especially not on the roof slab.

Thanks, keep the comments coming, I'll figure it out eventually.
Ahh - you're accessing the roof surfacer object thru the object tool? Try selecting a roof in plan view then going to Extras-->Accessories-->Roof Accessories and roof surfacer. I'm not sure it's any different than the way you're doing it, but it's worked for me.
Great tool, wish I knew about it earlier.

One small problem. I have my roofs correctly made, but when I apply the roof surfacer using Italian tiles, the roof tiles are upside down.

How do I correct this.

Key TIP from ArhciCAD University West 2004....

When Roof Surfacer applies tiles that "Catch" the rain instead of Shed it, simply select the ROOF piece, invert the spring line (keep it in the same line, just stretch the left side over the right side, so it actually goes DOWN HILL) Then modify the ROOF PITCH such that it is the NEGATIVE NUMBER of your original pitch....

It's really pretty easy.... try it..
