1 Unlink desired sect/elev,
2 Select all & drag a copy to the side,
If you're trying to use the sketch renderer, just set up the 3D window to look like an elevation or section, using the projection controls and the Marquee tool.

do u have to unlink the sections/elevations to proceed to the final working drawing set?
i havent unlinked anything as yet but i am just at the approval set, im afraid when there are changes made to the model i will have to do the section over, what do i do?

That's exactly why it's better to use the Sketch Rendering Engine. Unless you need a vector based sketch drawing for some reason (can't really think of one) I can't see any advantage to using the modifying lines method. (the sketch render runs surprisingly fast by the way especially if you don't have vectorial sun shadows and vectorial hatching)

Yes and no, depending on what you're trying to do. The 2 options are as follows (haven't tried them out fully, but have experience with parts of them):

1.
- Go to S/E window, and without unlinking, select everything
- do a [Ctrl-C] and [Ctrl-V] (you're essentially pasting the lines of the model on top of the generated model)
- move away the paste before deselecting it
- make changes neccessary
- as S/E window changes,
- repeat process but move the paste to a different location,
- select only parts that changed, make changes, and move into position.

2.
- Go to S/E window, and unlink drawing
- select all items and change as neccessary.
- When model changes, just have it update the S/E. The linetypes might revert back, so re-select and re-change the linetypes as you want.

So, if you copy and move, use option 1. If you want to keep things in same location (may be less work in the long run), use option 2. Hope it's easy to understand.

However, if you want to use the section for a regular section that will be part of the CDs (with regular lines, dims, etc.), I would not suggest unlinking under... most if not all circumstances. Just put all the info on top of the generated view.
