<R>Hi,
My name is manu mathew thomas. I am new to archicad and liked this software much. I have two problems.

1.For a resort project i need to make an eliptical cone roof. I tried all possible ways in archicad which I know, but couldn't make the roof as I want. The plan is an elipse and i want the roof as an eliptical cone(i.e all the rafters meeting at one single point in the top).

2. For an interior layout presentation i want a sectional axometric view of the total interior. I am attaching a sample file. This is exactly what I want. But I couldn't figure out how to do so in archicad. All the sectional planes created in archicad is in the plan only. I tried to give the effect by reducing the height of the walls. But the doors and windows will project out.

Please advice me how to solve these problems.
....regards
manu:

You should be able to use Solid Element Operations (found under the Edit menu) to cut the model to create this view. Use the roofs as an operator for cutting the walls at a slope, a slab should work for cutting the rest. If you put the operators on their own layer, you can set that layer to wireframe (in the Layers dialog box) to better see the operation.
Thanx David,
It just worked....After doing the 'substraction with upward extrusion' procedure, I hided that operator element layer and got the exact result i wanted...thanx again..

And Kliment, though i can get around my eliptical roof problem doing a hand sketch, I would like to know what options are there in archicad to do it... moreover a handsketch is not always practical when things are done via computer.
Is this what you are after?
It was done using Roof tool with Polyroof geometry Method. initially, you'll get a elliptical base roof with identical pitched angle for all segments. So, you need to manually edit the individual segment's nodes and angles so that all the roof segment would meet at the center peak.

You could.... draw it in mesh..... get the shape you want then use the addon 'mesh to roof' tool..... If I can't build something in archicad after the first try, i make it in 3dsmax with relative ease.. but not everyone has max.

Dear LiHigh,
Thank your very much for showing me how to do it....

But when I tried to do the same, I am not able to snap the points correctly in the 3d!!!...(i am not so proficient in the software.>-<)
I made a roof using the 'ployroof' method(and using the magic wand)
then i suspended the groups and tried to edit each segments node.. but somehow i am not able to snap the points correctly!!.. each segmet is coming over the other!!...

So could you please narrate the step by step procedure for the same.

...thanx and regards
By "handsketch" I meant to draw what you wanted to achieve na AC by hand and show it to <S></S>us<E></E> so we could understand what you want.

Someone wrote it here recently: A picture is worth a shousand words...

So, is this waht you want?

Go to the AC built-in Lib - any version.
Select Cone.gsm.
Place it into your plan.
Save it as a new lib part from top view in 3D window.
In the new LibPart you just created you can determine the two axises and the height of the cone.

If you want a hollow cone make a ceond smaller cone and CEO the first one.

Good luck
