Enabling Panning function using mouse scroll button....

Can't seem to pan when I click down the mouse scroll button.....
Any suggestions will be appreciated...
Using XP pro and ArchiCAD 9.

There are two possibilities I can think of:

1. Check the mouse settings in your control panel to see if the scroll button has been set to "middle button"

2. In your Work Environment, check that the middle button is set to control Pan

Help! There's something wrong with the system. I kept getting error messages when posting my reply - so I tried again. And again. And again. Now, to my horror, I find that the post has been added. FOUR TIMES!

This may seem like a dumb question....but I can't find it.....Where exactly in the Work Environment could you find this option?

FYI you can delete your own posts if this happens, before someone adds another comment after it.

Stuart, there was something wrong with the system at the time and I was locked out of it. Good to see it up and running again.

You're right, Junior; it doesn't exist. My mistake. In fact, there seem to be no mouse options whatsoever. Sorry about the confusion.

The pan function defaults to the middle mouse button so, in the control panel, one just has to set the scroller click to act as "middle button" (if that's not the default already).

In the days when I used AutoCad, I had a 6-button mouse and assigned frequently used commands to the extra buttons - something I found quite useful. Doing it was a round-about process, but it was possible.
Question: is a mouse with more than 3 buttons wasted in AC?

Well thanks for clarifying. Wish I knew why my scroll panning won't function.

As for your question Vistasp, my friend has a mouse with more than 3 buttons and is able to assign common commands to each and every button......so its definitely not wasted I'll try to ask him later today about my main question....

You do not have any setting in the WE, it is a matter of what type of mouse driver you use.
There are a number of very good 3rd party apps available for Mac.

Have used various rodents over the years, and always return to my faithful Kensington.

Suggest you Google for type of mouse you presently use.
Maybe somebody from the "dark side" will chime in.

Yep, that I am! Have been stuck with the evil empire since DOS 3.something

My mouse (it's made by M$... horrors!) allows me to configure its buttons separately for individual programs. However, I was thinking more along the lines of specific AC commands. I guess that's not possible. Yet!

Yes you can vistasp, if you look at the top and bottom button actions
in my pic, they are mapped to my shortcuts created in my WE.

I have these set differently in other apps.

Anyways...
I talked it over with my friend, and it's just as what you guys have mentioned awhile ago....the settings have to be set using the mouse's control panel. Depending on the type of mouse one has, this process may differ, but should be able to configure it accordingly to allow for panning in ArchiCAD using the scroll 'click'.

Whoa! Missed that. Thanks for pointing the way, Rod. I've found this small utility called "X-mouse button control" which works on XP/Vista and allows you to send a custom keystoke sequence to specific applications.
