<T>Hello,

We have found a bug in archicad 9 build 2219 regarding the ctrl shortcut key to enable or disable the drag a copy feature.

What we do is:

Start draging: ctrl+d
Zoom in: ctrl+/
Now the little plus symbol is displayed and we cannot turn it off by pressing ctrl untill we zoom in again.

Is there some way to disable the ctrl shortcut key. If we want to drag a copy we will do ctrl+shift+d.

Thanks,
Adam</T>

I have encountered similar problems recently and have had to restart archicad to regain proper function. One time it was similar to the above description and another time the "drag a copy" action would not be initiated with the option or command option combination (on a Mac). I tested mirror and rotate and had the same problem. Closing Archicad and launching it again resolved the issue.

This is a bug and no unfortunately you can't disable the ctrl feature.

Besides that it sounds like you are not using the most efficient method to zoom. I'd recommend investing in a scroll wheel mouse and zooming dynamically with the wheel. You won't believe how much faster it is to navigate around your project.

That mouse will pay for itself in gained productivity in just a couple of days!
Glad to know its not just me, hopefully graphisoft can fix this in a hotfix...

I do agree that using the scroll wheel on the mouse is the easiest way to zoom, and we do have them, unfortunatly our drafters have just upgraded from version 7 where there is no scroll function. They are all accustomed to using the shortcut keys for zooming and why not, its actually quite qucik when you are used to doing it this way.

Of course these were <S></S>added<E></E> due to popular request a few years back (something about consistency with word processors etc. I guess). I agree that they don't serve much purpose in navigating an unbounded (relatively) workspace.

I personally become furious with any program that doesnt utilize the scroll wheel for all kinds of different combinations of commands. I am going to show my age here (LOL) but I remember being in high school drafting class when our mice switched to wheel mice and using *gasp* DATACAD 7 we could zoom and pan so much easier (The menu system in that program was abnormal to begin with anyway). I think a lot of programs have options to set up the sensitivity of the wheel for scrolling. Maybe its in the mouse software. Either way I cannot see using second hand or a series of right clicks to do things that are second nature like zooming.

Sorry, that kind of turned into thinking out loud ....

BTW, if the plural of mouse is mice shouldnt the plural of house be hice?

How accurate do you need a "Zoom" command to be? I generally find "zoom in around here" is close enough... it's not like it gets dimensioned <E>😉</E>

I find that I move very fast and accurately with my thumb button programmed to ctrl+/ and the index/middle finger pair to previous zoom. The scroll wheel tends to be less accurate....

There's an art to zooming with your scroll wheel that is blindingly obvious to most and completely unknown to some, so I will mention it anyway, just in case you fall into the latter category:

The most accurate way to zoom in (using the scroll wheel) is to hover your cursor over the exact point you want to zoom in to. If you scroll exactly over the desired target, you will zoom into it. By watching your cursor snap to a node first, you can be even more accurate. Okay it's not absolutely spot on, but it gets you close enough IMHO.

Once that technique is mastered, you can then use the same principle to zoom in and out of areas quickly, by being slightly off-target.

It's the same with pan (by pressing the scroll wheel). Hold it down where you want to pan from and let it go where you want to pan to.

As I said pretty obvious to most, but if you're still using ctrl+/ and zoom previous to zoom <S></S>accurately<E></E>, maybe thie above method will become easier with practice?

Cheers,
I use the scroll ball (Mighty Mouse) happily all day, but I do still find times when the explicit zoom command is better. The scroll is a bit jumpy and sometimes the zoom I want is in between the steps.
