<T>With encouragement from Matthew who also had this problem.

I had a case where all my Section/Elevations defaulted to a single section. IE, every section/elevation in my plan referenced detail 1/302. I am not sure how it occurred. To fix it you have to select refer to drawing in the info box and browse to the correct section. This is also not exactly simple because you have to select it in the layout. My biggest concern is that there was no indication of the error occurring. Just bad referencing on the set I sent out to my engineer. Is anyone else having this problem? Do you have any short cuts on how to re-link?</T>

Of course not! I only have:

• Markers slip to 'Undefined' by themselves.

• Checking 'Refer to Drawing' has no effect. And then you zoom in on the marker, and box unchecks itself!

• Once they slip, No RtD fix-attempt works correctly without the use of Browse... and the marvelous RtD dialog box. That is, switch the reference and switch it back.

IOW, it's pretty messed up.

My version of the problem is section markers randomly referring to the wrong drawing.

One elevation was referring to the abbreviations on the title sheet. In my case the problem was so persistent (no amount of browsing, moving etc. seemed to work) that I had to make a separate copy of the file, toss the model data, and replace (not just relink) the drawings from the original model.

Naturally I am concerned that, after going through all this relinking, the markers are going to start going off again.

At the end of the day, the elevations turned to Section state and no changing of parameters and settings could bring them back.
I can't get anything to work:

When using a separate Layout Book, the Markers stay 'Undefined' and there is no way to reset (no, not even by using 'Browse...')

I did a test using Views and Layouts within the same file -- the Marker dialog <S></S><S></S>says<E></E><E></E> that it is referencing the placed drawing, but the Marker as it appears in plan (on the Layout) does not reflect this.

THIS IS <S></S>MAJOR<E></E> -- THIS MUST BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY!!! GS PLEASE HELP!!!

This was my bad.

The Model view setting was the culprit - it should always be on Settings, nothing else.
Why would we want something to look different than what we have set it to is beyond me ...

same here,...the "3 click method" to link markers + views + refer to dwg is a good "on screen" shortcut ....
but not sure if it is the software or me..too many sections not used, deletion of sections but the view selected still on layout, dont remember which section goes with which view, etc...i think is me !!

Quite. The worst issues IMO are things changing on their own (so you mustn't stop watching them, yet you have to do other things), wrong stuff that looks right (thereby tricking you into not watching them), and bugs that show up in the deliverables (making me, my software, and my vendor look like amateurs). This marker behavior hits the trifecta. Killer.

Well, the latest hotfix (987) does not seem to address this.

I still cannot get any Markers to reference Views, and they remain "Undefined". I <S></S>can<E></E> get them to reference Drawings if the layout book resides within the model file, but in our office this practice is the exception. I can't be sure if this is isolated to migrated files, as that is all we are working with at this time.

I am curious what section markers are being used that are having these problems. I had some issues initially when I was working with my AC 9 template and ended up setting up new section elevation markers that were based on the new library parts. I have not had any problems since. I wonder if there is any consistency as to what is causing the problems.

Anyone making progress fixing the auto-referencing errors?

One of our projects has started to place random reference numbers in the detail markers. These detail markers are placed in section/elevation windows or plan windows. The only way we have been able to get them to reference correctly is to place a new detail marker, copy the contents of the original detail into this new detail window, create a new quickview, and place this onto the layout sheet. This references correctly for now but we wonder for how long.

We are using a custom marker object, but changing to a standard V10 marker does not fix the problem.
