which video card do you have? the nvidia geforce4 440go has a 'n view' feature that allows lots of 2 monitor settings. i run my 1600x1200 (too small text...) notebook lcd @ 1400x1050 and my 21" crt @ 1280x1024 w/ no problems. there is a n view icon that will allow you to move windows from monitor 1 to 2. pretty cool. you may need the latest greatest video drivers. i imagine ati has a similar feature set.

<T>I am trying to set up a dual monitor with my 17" WXGA (1400 x 900) and an external 19"LCD (1280 x 1024). Any help would be appreciated.

I am also using Windows 2000 Pro. How much better is Windows XP with Dual Monitors?

With ATI 9600 Pro the Resolution is set to (2304 x 846), Each Set at (1152 x 864). Does Windows XP allow for each monitor to have a different resolution?</T>

Jay, I just upgraded to XP yesterday and found that startup is faster than 2000, applications load much faster, and switching from single to dual on the fly is considerably faster.
Are you allowed to have different screen resolutions on each screen?

MicroSoft Support tells me that with Windows 2000 the Dual screen is actuatly one screen split into two. (2304 x 846), Each Set at (1152 x 864).

With Windows XP I am told that the resolutions for each motitor can be set indipendantly. Time to buy XP and spend onother day doing the install.

I have two monitors in XP which give me two full 1280x1024 screens.
This is an nVidia Quadro4 900 XGL card.

With the older Matrox G450 (used it both on 2000 & XP) I had one large resolution instead of two independent ones. But with newer drivers I could set them seperately on Windows 2000 as well (these drivers were not usable though, only as an administrator, so it might be workable if you find the latest ones).
