Windows : "stretched" Octagonal & Customizable

I have found the W Octagonal Piv 81 window (states as "W Octagonal Piv 70.win" in object Script) in the ArchiCAD Library 81.pla > 08 Doors-Windows 81 > Windows 81 > Wood Plastic Windows 81 > Special Windows 81. It is not "special" enough. I would like a 2-foot wide by 4-foot tall windows. This window does not allow the width to differ from the height. Is there a window that can do this?

Also I seem to be missing the parameter to adjust the Awning size on a Window. I have a 3-foot wide by 1-'foot tall window that is to have a Awning at the lower 2 or 3-feet and fixed glass above. Any help would be apppreicieated.

Hey Jay,

Didn't you attend Karl's excellent object making lecture at ACUW?
Get your binder out from underneath your kitchen table... Karls lecture is contained in its entirety. He walked us through making custom doors and windows. I have been using his methods now for windows I need that AC seems to lack parameters for...such as a tall octagonal windows.

The first window took a little time, but I can create them now pretty productively. Thanks Karl!

As for the awning...I'll be no help at all...objects online?

Thanks Richard for the "Homework" , I wish the notebook was as accessible as the "Kitchen Table", it's around here somewhere . I will dig in. Karls Workshops and/or at least having the extensive notes where the highlight of the ACUW!

When I open up the "W Octagonal Piv 8.1" object (which states that is is "!! W Octagonal Piv 70.win" in the 2da Script). The height parameter is there, but grayed-out. How can I make this object "stretch in the Height (B variable) ???

Although like most GDL activities I am told that this is "easy", But judging from no response, it IS way too easy or not easy at all.

The statement in the master script: lock "B". I don't know what will happen if you comment it out. It's probably locked to keep B=A.

Yup, comment it out, try to change B, it flips back to =A. That's because somewhere there is a statement: PARAMETERS B=something.

Aha, beginning on line 143 is some code which which forces values onto B depending on the value of 'res'. If res is even, B=A, if it's odd it's slightly less. So a nonagon is slightly shorter than an octagon. Hm, res is hidden, so they don't want you putting different numbers in anyway. So you can comment out all the "parameters b=" statements.

So now you can edit B, but it doesn't make any difference. The window is built only using A. All that parameters stuff is just so the height displays correctly. If you look at the PRISM_ statements in the 3D script, there are A's in the Y coordinates. And it's not as easy as replacing the A's with B's.

The window is width=height to the core. IMHO, it would be easier to start from scratch.

So, it was an easy question! But I think the window is not flexible enough to modify easily.

James, Thanks for the detective work...

Still a rookie on making my own parts. Even a non-parametric window as a bunch of slabs is not an easy task for me. I will head over to objects on line to hunt for the "stretchy" octagon.

I think an Octagonal window has a square bounding box looking from the side, so defining A defines B as well, therefore there is no need really for B, therefore it is locked.
If both A and B were freely resizable, it wouldn't be an Octagonal shape, I guess.
