<T>Hi there,
This is a new problem for me: when I go to view my model in 3D, or in section, parts of it are not showing up, but inconsistently. That is, whole walls are simply not there, or all of the roofs are not there, or just one wall...I've cut and pasted into a new file, but this problem persists. I have "All types" selected for "Elements to Show in 3D", and when I close and reopen the file, it is fine for a while...but then starts to drop parts. I don't know why...! Please helf!
Thanks...
How do you "go to 3D window"?

Open a preset view? Just do CTRL 3 from the plan?

What is the layer status?

Any duplicate elements?

Etc ...

BTW, the basic ArchiCAD version and computer data in your signature are always welcome info ...

show all layers and turn cutting planes off? you're not accessing the 3D window with a marquee are you? if so, what are the marquee 3D settings? all simple stuff which i'm sure you've checked out . . . it does <S></S>sound<E></E> a little serious . . . good luck!
Do what Ben suggest first. If no luck
Your file may be corupt some how. couple of things to try.
1)Start a new file. (hopefully from a template)
Try and File/Merge the bad file.
Check and see if you have the same issues.

2) Start a new file. (hopefully from a template)
Open the other file and copy and paste elements into the new file portions at a time. Everytime you paste check the file by opening the 3D window and checking the report making sure there are no errors. See how much you can get before you get the errors. When you get the error, undo, and stay away from those elements.

likely problems can be inverted polygons or some odd solid element operation

All,
First off, thank you very much for your replies. I always appreciate it. The simple (predictable) aspects were all OK, but cutting and pasting into a new model does seem to have worked; I think it must have been something corrupt in the first version. As my "template" is still an evolving thing (as they always are, I suspect!) I have been using a previous model, going in and borrowing elements from it as I build a new model in the same file...ultimately deleting the original elements from that file. this, I'm sure, is an opportunity for accrued corruption of a file. Time to save a template, I'd say.
Again, thank you.
zobi - something else that springs to mind: i have had occasions whereby the use of beams running alongside walls can completely obliterate the wall itself. when the beams were on hidden layers this meant for some serious head-scratching . . . anything like that possible? if so, either redraw the beams just off of the wall or change the layer intersection priority so that they don't interact with the walls when hidden . . . ?
Nope, nay, nary a beam...however, GET THIS! I transferred the file to a laptop Mac (1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB RAM, same v AC, 9 as I use at the desktop Mac) and, again, lost a ton of walls. Nothing daunted, I saved my work, brought it back over to the desktop, and VOILA! Everything reappeared as it should have. Which leads me to wonder: could it be something as simple as an available RAM issue? It was just so weirdly, and unpredictable, dropping walls...not by layer, or by type, or any such thing.
Your thoughts?
