Detail Tool

I am not clear on how to use the detail tool. When I try to use it all it does is put down a detail bubble without creating a box around the area I want to detail. Also can I use this tool in the section/ elevation window. My understanding is that this detail bubble will be linked to a 2D drawing but I cannot seem to get to that point. Any help or suggestions on where to go look for help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try different detail markers and geometry methods. It can be a bit confusing. Have you read the manual?

Look at the info box. The setting that is checked by default is to create an empty detail (a box with an X inside). Choosing any of the other options will copy the data from the detail box into a detail window. Also make play around with the "link to detail to an existing detail" option
