Look at the info box. The setting that is checked by default is to create an empty detail (a box with an X inside). Choosing any of the other options will copy the data from the detail box into a detail window. Also make play around with the "link to detail to an existing detail" option

<DIV class="actalk-migrated-content"><T>I am not clear on how to use the detail tool. When I try to use it all it does is put down a detail bubble without creating a box around the area I want to detail. Also can I use this tool in the section/ elevation window. My understanding is that this detail bubble will be linked to a 2D drawing but I cannot seem to get to that point. Any help or suggestions on where to go look for help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.<BR />

Try different detail markers and geometry methods. It can be a bit confusing. Have you read the manual?
