This was my own doing as you VERY tactfully suggested by screwing around with the video drivers in the first place, ( couldn't resist the lure of more power), but...........EVERYONE should know how to set their preferences, where their located and then archive them somewhere safe. In some ways, probably even more so with ver 9, they are as valuable as work completed. Time = money.

<R>Has anyone ever seen, and hope fully know how to cure this: See attached screenshot, the input areas for "to story 1" and "width" are blacked out on my beam tool. They allow accurate input and the input is reflected in the object but you cannot see what it is your inputting. All the others seem to be functioning as normal.</R>

Hi Jeff,

This looks very much like a display driver issue. Didn't I read on another thread that you had downloaded some nVidia 'hacks'? If so, try the true-blue nVidia driver and see if things go back to normal.
Hi Karl-

Yes that was me playing with the Nvidia "hi-po" tools. Can't leave weel enough alone...........just seemed odd that it would only effect a single dialog box but I guess coming to terms with "odd" are part and parcel to the computer environment. I'll try updating to a stock driver and let you know.

.............meanwhile, I've downloaded the latest "certified" driver direct from the Nvidia site and loaded it and, no change. Can there be after effects from a video driver that you're aware of?

Sorry, Jeff! I read your first post way too quickly and thought it was happening on all similar dialogs.

I can't imagine a display driver causing that for just one dialog. It sounds more like some kind of corruption. Do you get the same thing no matter what project you are in? After a reboot? Might have to reinstall AC...??

Welcome back to my "twilight zone" Karl, thanks for checking in. Yes it ws appearing in every opened file including new and reset.

Luckily for me Rod Serling came to me this morning over coffee ...............after updating to stock drivers (different versions even) multiple times, reinstalling the "hi-po" drivers multiple times (different versions as well), running Spybot and Ad-aware a couple of times, multiple reboots, msconfigs, sfc /scannows, etc.................he said "try replacing your ArchiCAD 8.1 R2 preferences." Well as always Rod had it right, however strange. We now return control of your computer to your regularly scheduled work, until this time next week............

I was about to place a call to GSUS tech support for the first time! Once again proving the theory, get up, walk away, sleep on it, what ever, it'll come to you.

Whew! Glad you're out of the Twilight Zone (or was that Outer Limits), Jeff. I'm sure your report on corrupt preferences will help many out at some time or another. <E>😉</E>
