How do I get the intersection of a 2"x4" wall and a 2"x6" wall to show up properly in plan view? These are walls are composite structures that I have created. I would think that there is some minor setting that I need to change to get these walls to intersect properly but I haven't yet figured out which setting to adjust.

The attached image shows the situation that I am trying to fix better than my question. The top three intersections are intersections of 2"x4" walls and 2"x6" walls. These intersections do not show up properly in plan view.

The bottom three intersections appear properly in plan view.

How can I get the 2"x4"/2"x6" intersections to show up like the 2"x4"/2"x4" intersections?

I couldn't reproduce your issue with my own partition composites, but...

Are they on the same layer? If not, check the intersection codes.

Are the unwanted lines contour lines or composite skin separators? If they're skin lines, set them to hide in the composite settings, then set the walls to use 'Composite Separator Lines'.

Are you using those fills called 2x4 & 2x6? I don't know what they're for, but since they have different names they won't clean up. I avoid them and use empty for all skins instead.

Thank you for your help. The walls are on the same layer. I followed your advice to set the composite's skin lines to hide. This seems to have worked. Now I need to learn a lot more about composite intersections and wall ends. Thank you for steering me in the right direction.

Hey John

Just remember that composite skins with the same name (or more importantly with the same ID#) will heal, as long as the reference lines of the walls meet.

John, you shouldn't have to hide composite skins.

Try pulling the wall away from its intersecting wall, and then stretch the connecting wall past the line of the intersecting wall, and it should join correctly.

If all the skins are the same, the separators will show at T intersections. If the stud space is one fill and the GWB is another, the Ts will heal properly.

Why shouldn't you do it that way? Because the walls won't reliably clean up to slabs in section. If this doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.

Hiding the separators is a copout, but it works perfectly.

Also, I don't want to see the GWB line at 1/4" anyway; it blends in with the wall contour and makes it look heavier.

I agree with James. Until the composites are scale sensitive and clean up properly in section, they are of limited usefulness.

Assuming this would be adjustable, it would still mean having to set the tipping point across the entire file. A Core Only display option is more flexible and more consistent with the established quickview architecture.

I agree with you, Geoff, regarding scale sensitive display of composites. I wouldn't want that for the reason you state. However, I would like the option of turning off the composite display in both plan and section, but retain the overall thickness of the wall--not just the core. I have no use for showing the core only, though I understand others do. There should be three options then: show composites, hide composites, show core only.

I have been using ArchiCAD for about 3 years and I like using composite walls. The only problem is that the structural only wants the core. What I have been doing is having two walls, one on top of the other. One wall on one layer and the second wall on another layer with different intersection group number. I would like it if there was a update for the program to make it possible to show only core material of a composite wall. I would save time in having to make two wall in the same location.
