I spoke too soon....
It happened again! on a totally different project...

This is the second time it has happened to me. Amazing...absolutely amazing.
This is gonna be at least an hours work to redo my 2d data...

Luckily, this project is in the early stages...otherwise I'd be doing 4 hours worth.

So I guess, having the latest update still did not fix this type of issue..

<T>Okay fellows, this one is a new pickle I have encountered, if anyone else have encountered this problem please help. I'm currently using ArchiCAD 9 on G5 mac. I've been doing alot of work on a specific project and have come close to getting what I want in model and in documentation. I did some "2 dimensional work" on my elevations for the past 2 days...such as dimensioning, labeling, adding some lines and some hatch patterns to complete my elevations. All my elevations were already assigned to a view in the "publisher/view editor" thing so that I could later use it in plotmaker. I've been having a smooth work flow from floor plans to the 3D window, to sections and elevations with no problems. That being said, this afternoon, I re-opened one of my views and to my dislike, all my 2D data were gone!..my dimensions, my text, my extra lines, and hatches..all gone. The only thing visible is my bare model. Why? Please, help.

Thank You so much.</T>

You've obviously checked that the appropriate layers are (or layer combination is) on, or even turned ALL layers on to see if your 2D stuff was not drawn on the wrong layer. Obviously.

Obviously, in fact, thats the first thing I did. I even tried turning all the layers on. And rest assured, I did not erase any layers at any time.

Just for the record and information, my good friend in the Philippines, who has been running ArchiCAD 9 on a windows XP platform has encountered this exact same problem recently. Also, in addition...my office mate in San Jose had told me that he also encountered this problem a few months back. So please be aware that this has happened to other people as well.

Are your sections set as a drawing? Auto-rebuild model? If you are working on your sections as a drawing, you should out of habit cut all drawing elements and paste them back into the sect/elev window. This is a lame "feature" that graphisoft has implemented that keeps 2d elements linked to the model.

Hi Mike, my Sections and Elevations are Auto-rebuild. Then I add some dimensions, text, lines, and in some cases...hatches to improve the elevations and sections. Then as a quick way to go back to my elvations and/or sections, I save it as a view under "View Sets". (Please take note: I've already checked and made sure it wasn't a layer issue....so it has nothing to do with layers not showing or deleted layers).

I have not seen problems similar to what you have run across in the years that I have been using archicad. If it was only dimensions that were lost I could envision this happening if walls in the model were deleted and replaced with a new wall. Is it possible your 2d information is hidden behind another element? If you are in the sect/elev window with all layers on and go to one of the 2d tools and select all is anything selected?

I have tried that technique Mike, turning all layers on and trying to select 2d elements to see if my 2d data is somewhere out there. No luck, I did this method in the very beginning suspecting that it was hidden or it was a layer issue....but....unfortunately, that is not the case here. And that is also not the case with the 2 other folks I mentioned earlier facing this same problem. We investigated and conversed about the issue. So, its something else...

I could not think of any explanation or fix for your situation.
For my own clarification, would you say that your situation would
be exactly as you describe if you had, at some point, selected
all of your section/elevation markers and cut them to the clipboard
would it not ?
Peter Devlin

Junior,
I don't have an answer for you either but I have seen what you describe.
We are currently still on V8.1 but occasionally in the past we have opened a PLN and recieved a warning message stating something like ("Cannot read section/elevation .......".
For some reason the file has become corrupt but only with regards to the 2D info in sections/elevations - never did figure out why.

If you are not getting the warning message maybe you have them turned off in your preference settings?

It is only the 2D data that is lost as the section through the 3D model is still there and can be openened.

Sometimes the BPN file is OK and you can copy and paste the 2D info from each section.
But more often than not I found this was corrupt also.
Do you have any older archived files that may be of help here?

I don't know if this will help any but sometimes (in the old days with earlier versions) when I have trouble with a section not generating properly, I find moving the section line slightly in the plan helps.
Just move it a couple of mm (¼") or so and then re-open it.

I haven't come across this problem in a while and suspect it is something to do with saving the PLN to a network server - but why just the 2D details from elevations I don't know.
Hello Peter, YES, the result of doing what you mentioned is identical to what I described.....only I have never cut them into the clipboard and pasted them back in because...I know, and most people know that by doing so....we would lose all the elements in that section/elevation.

Yes, Barry. I have done that same technique you have mentioned...moving the section slightly in the plans...I have done that in the earlier versions of AC. "Saving the PLN to a network server" hmmm... I too have suspected that....but to my dismay that isn't the case. I have done some deep investigation and conversed with some fellow AC users from different offices (the ones I mentioned earlier who are experiencing the same problem)...and one of them does not even hook up to a network server. So, I have kind of crossed that out in hopes to narrowing down to what really is causing this problem and what is the cure.

Yeah, and its tougher for those who can't go back to the .bpn files because of already saving the documents numerous times, after it already had happened.

I'm stilll waiting for a response from one the admin guys regarding this issue.
