I'm actually new to Archicad all together. I have a simple question. Just need to know how to do a Gable Roof and also as we call it in Australia a Dutch Gable Roof (which is a Hip End with a Gable on the top end of the hip.

Thankyou and Regards to all
Gable roofs are very simple to make.
Usually, you start with the two parallel walls
that will support the two roofs that form the gable.
Select the roof tool, go to the roof tool settings,
enter all parameters, including height of the pivot line
which should be set to the height of the walls,
the pitch, thickness, etc.
Go back to the plan and select the polygon construction method.
Start drawing the first roof by starting the eave edge
line at the inside edge of the wall and running parallel with it.
An eyeball cursor form will appear prompting you to
gesture towards the up-slope direction of your roof.
Once you have done this, go back to the start point
of the eave line and start drawing the eave line.
This time you are drawing the eave edge.
Draw the eave edge then the adjacent rake edge,
but don't go all the way to where you think the ridge
will be but go up about half way.
draw the adjacent ridge line and then the return rake line
completing the rectangle.
Get out of the roof tool and mirror a copy of this roof
onto the opposite wall.
Select one roof by selecting the ridge edge of one roof
and command click on the ridge edge of the other roof then
select the ridge edge of the other roof
and command click on the first roof.
This miters the two roofs at the ridge.
You can then stretch the edges of the roofs to form
eaves and rakes.
Some people make a hip roof and then delete the
two end hips and then edit the the hip ridges
so they form 90° rake corners. I suspect that
these people never learned how to make a simple
gable as described above.
Have you gotten it to work at all? This has always been a very reliable feature, but a little different from most. You may already know this, but the method is to select (only) one roof and to command/control click the edge of another roof which you want to intersect with the selected one. It is best if they are well separated to start so the effect is easily seen. It is often easier to do it in 3D.

Be sure that you are not clicking on a perpendicular edge which cannot intersect with the selected roof.

gooch:

You don't say which platform you are on, command-click to intersect the roofs is for the Mac, it is control-click on Windows. If the arrow tool is selected, then the cursor will be a scissors during this operation. If the roof tool is selected, the cursor will be the mercedes symbol. You will need to do this operation twice: select one roof and then command-click on the other roof, the roof that you command-clicked on will be extended to the line of intersection. You then need to select the second roof and command-click on the first roof to change that roof.
All about roofs, ArchiCAD 6.o:
Not much has changed since ... and all that you need to know for an average - and most of the not so average - roofs is there.
You said that you were on Archicad 8.
Do you mean Archicad 8.1 or Archicad 8.0 ?
If you are on Archicad 8.0 then many things
don't work as they should.
If you are on Archicad 8.0 then I strongly
recommend upgrading to 8.1. It is free and
available from your re-seller. After you
install this version upgrade it to the latest
patch which is AC 8.1 v2 c.
