Hello Doug,
You can change your user name by editing your profile.
You can keep your user name and just sign your posts.

I must apologies for what I suggested about changing the
section material for the plates. I just checked AC 6.5 and
the wall accessory makes one object. It finally dawned on me
that I was thinking of RoofMaker that makes separate rafters
ridges boards etc.

I guess you have several choices.
You can draw your section lines parallel to but outside of your walls
and do the extra line work.
If you want to experiment with GDL you could save the
wall accessory object under a different name and play around
with the SECT_FILL command for the three TUBE commands I mentioned.
You could create a couple of fill type parameters in the parameters list
so you could always control the section fills of the three plates
so they don't clean-up with each other or with the studs when
viewed in section/elevation with the section line cutting through any wall.

<T>I've been working with autocad for about 3 years. Sections that I draw are very detailed. I design and draw for a log home company. With AC I've placed wall framing and then looked at the section only to find that the studs and plates are not divided the same way that I do it with lines in autocad. They are combined, with what appears to be an empty fill. Is there any way to get every piece or framing to show with all it's sides defined without having to draw lines to present its boundaries?</T>

This is a quick generic drawing that gives you an idea of our sections. It takes an average of 15 minutes +/- to draw but I feel it's quite detailed. It's actually missing a few things but you get the drift. I'd like to be able to duplicate this with AC without adding any drawing time.

I have read your question again and I wonder if
what you are saying is that the joints between
the two top plates "cleans-up" so that you don't
see any line between the them.
If this is what you are saying then one way
of making the joint show in section is to
change the section material of one of the plates.
If you choose one that appears the same as "Empty Fill"
but has a different name then the fill will look the same
but the two plates will show a line between them.
Thanks for getting back so quick. You are right about "Cleaning Up". The studs do the same thing with the plates. The framing I'm using is from "Extras"...Accessories"..."Wall Accessories". The wall framing appears to be one object. How do I go about changing the fill of one single plate?

select one of the plates and in the settings dialog change
section material either in the parameter list or in the
I just checked and you are right.
In AC 10, wall framing is one object unlike previous versions
so what I suggested won't work.
I suppose there is a way to change the script of the object
but those add-on scripts are complicated and usually quite long.
Just out of curiosity, why do you place your section line
inside the wall rather than just outside of the wall ?
Looking at your image, it would seem that what
you want to show could be done by making
an elevation of the wall framing.
Then the only thing left to do is add a couple of lines
in walls that are not parallel to and cut by the section line.

It would be good, if you don't mind, to give us
a name to address you by.
Thanks,
I just had a quick look at the code for the the AC 9 wall framing accessory
and it appears that making the section material for the three plates
be different could be done (maybe).
The code has separate tube commands for the three plates.
Do you know any GDL ?
I'm Doug Thornton. Any way to change user name to this? I hadn't tried putting the section marker just outside the wall. It made all the difference in the world. Please bear in mind that I'm still quite new to this. It just made more sense to me to split the wall down the center with the marker. I can see that I will at times have to use lines to get the desired look. I guess in the long run I will still save some time. We've had AC for quite some time but got so busy that it had to go on the back burner.
