I wish it was more like the lightscape window (see attachment), where there is "zoom" and "dolly".

ZOOM - Changes the field of view keeping the observer and focus point unchanged.

DOLLY - Moves the Observer Point along the view path

What Archicad10 calls "ZOOM" is actually"DOLLY". Or is there something wrong with my AC10 settings here.

<T>Hi everyone...I am new here and I have a question about AC10...

Why there is no "simple zoom" in 3D window, like the earlier versions have? I just want to zoom in to a small area of the perspective view without changing any of the camera parameters, just like zooming in to a 2D image. I used to love that feature in AC9. Now when I zoom in, the whole perspective parameters change... the model rebuilds and it takes considerable time to do that. Now i am forced to go back to AC9 because of this.

Please Advise
Thanks

Robin</T>

To me it sounds like your 3D window is set to Infernal Engine instead of OpenGL (because you said it rebuilds, which is common with the Infernal Engine)

Be warned, AC10's 3D navigation is really different from AC9's. It takes a little getting used to.

Thanks for the reply. But it does the same thing in OpenGL too. Its not the rebuilding that bothers me, but perspective parameters changing. In AC9 I can zoom in to a small part of the perspective view and run rendering of only that part and then zoom to another part and run rendering of that part and fainally I can combine all these individual renderings in to one single image in pfotoshop.

I cant do that with AC10

Hope I am conveying it in the right way.
PLease see attached image
I don't know what is wrong with your zooming. Mine's been working as expected. You are right, sort of, about ArchiCAD's zoom. There are really two ways to zoom now. The old way of drawing the zoom rectangle, which is more like a photo enlargement, and the new orbit/walkabout which is more like a camera dolly. There is no quick way to do the camera equivalent of a telephoto zoom - this can only be done in the camera settings dialog.

you are right, of course, but the new AC10 navigation makes it much easier to find a particular viewpoint.

i haven't tried it recently, but you could always pull up the 'Classic 3D Navigation' toolbar - it gives you all of the navigation tools you've been used to previously . . .
I wish archicad 11 goes back to the good old SIMPLE ZOOM and EPS exporting tools of AC9. AC10 Zooming and 3D navigation works okay if you are just dealing with a small file. But when you have a 24 floors and a numerous 3D info in your model then the new zooming and 3D navigation is a real pain......

Are you using the scroll wheel pan and zoom, the orbit, or the walkabout?
They are different than in AC9.
Great for navigation, but obviously not what you need for the partial renders.

If you use the old zoom tool you will get exactly the same result as in AC9.
There is an icon at the bottom of the 3D window or you can add it to your menus and/or shortcuts with a custom WE.

Thank you Matthew for the reply.

I agree with you, All these new tools are great to play around with, especially on a relatively lite model. But when you have a really big file and you dont want to 3D filter everything out these tools are almost of no use. Most of the time I need to look at the model from a specific camera location and height (for example from the window on the 23rd floor of another building in the neighbourhood) which kind of forces me set my camera and its parameters on the floor plan itself. Then all I need is to be able to use my zoom window without changing my camera parameters and save the specific zoomed views. AC9 was great for this, not AC10.

I did try Classic 3D navigation. That does not help me either to do a simple zooming.

I will soon give up trying and go back to AC9 or switch to REVIT.

Right, because you should either limit yourself to using AC9 for the rest of your life or use Revit, which will obviously do everything you could ever want.

Why not just report this to your reseller as a bug? Maybe it would be fixed in a service pack at some point in the future.
