ok...this may be very elementary for many here.......

can anyone help me how to cut a hole in the wall????

i tried using the slab, magic wand on elevation but can't cut.

You can use an empy hole window. If the form of the hole is more complicated you can draw an elevation on 2d of the form you want you hole to look like(on elevation), and use the magic wand into your shape to create a slab thicker than the wall. Pick your new slab and and go to 3d projection settings. Go to parallel projections and set a side view with the camera set north. Click OK. What you see now is the plan of the slab you just created. Go to file/gdl object/save project as....save it. Pick the object tool, find your object and place it on your plan, where the wall you want to cut is. Position it on the desired height with a section, and use Solid Element Operation to substruct the slab from the wall. Place the slab on a hidden layer and you get the hole in the wall...

i guess this is the only shortest way to do it using the parallel view/side....i wonder if there is already tool that can simply substrate 2 walls or slabs without going through the 3d setting.............

Alternatively, if you define the object as Lukas mentioned, you can also edit the gdl script by replacing [SLAB] with [WALLHOLE] instead of using solid modelling operations. This will show an opening in plan.

Guys, I don't think either Solid Element Operations or the WALLHOLE solution was available in AC 7 and our friend is using AC 7.
The empty Window solution sounds good though.

The gdl WALLHOLE function was available from at least v6.

I however agree that using an empty window is probably the best for rectangular openings, regardless of which version you're using.

Yes, you are right.
I thought you are suggesting the solution where you save a slab, then specify "WALLHOLE" as its User ID, so a non-rectangular hole shape can be generated.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
