Detail Boundary

<T>I've placed several details and afterwards I've decided that for some of them the detail needs to capture more information. So I stretch the boundary box in the source view, but when I go to the detail and rebuild from source view it reverts back to the detail information before I stretched the boundary. The boundary for the detail in the source view doesnt revert but the actual detail does. Has anyone else already fought with this problem? Solutions? I suppose I could just make a new detail and copy the linework I had in the old one, but that would then mean relinking in PM, etc.

Thanks for any help.</T>

Make sure your Display Options are set to show the clipping polygon. It can be edited like any other polygon (hatches, slabs, polylines) using the Pet Palette.

Thanks a ton. I didnt even think to look at the display settings, I just switched the clipping polygon on in the settings for the detail tool - and oddly enough you cant edit the clipping polygon if you turn it on that way.

You are probably getting the detail marker polygon confused with the detail boundary.

The detail marker polygon is just a graphical representation of detail boundary. It's the detail boundary that actually dictates what the detail view will show. This doesn't plot and as Tom pointed out you can show it's visibility via display options. Then you can edit it via the pet palette, like any other polygonal tool.

Furthermore, if the detail marker you are talking about is not the original (ie. it's a copy of the original), then you aren't able to edit it's boundary, because the boundary is determined by the original, or the source, only. In that case you can right click on the detail in the Project Map of the Navigator and choose 'Select Detail marker on the Source View and zoom to it'. Then you can edit it and ithe boundary (not the marker polygon) will change for any and all copies of that detail. (Pretty sure it's that way in 8.1, it's been a while!).

Cheers,
thanks for your reply. However, I still can't get it to work. I understand the difference between the marker polygon and the detail boundary. I have the boundary visible in the display settings, but no pet palette is coming up. I've tried it with the arrow tool active, with the detail tool active, etc. No luck. I must be missing something. I've only got one detail marker in the drawing, so it's definitely not a copy. I'm at a loss.

Can you please upload a screenshot of them? In particular the General Settings of the parameters.

The detail on your image looks like it should stretch just fine via the pet palette. Did you try clicking up near the curve of the marker polygon, where the two separate?

before uploading a screenshot, I decided to look more closely at the settings and I've discovered the problem. Under ' detail tool settings / general settings / working mode ' i've discovered that it has to be set to 'editable polygon.'

Seems so simple now. but it's overwhelming looking at all the settings when you've never use the tool before.

If it's any consolation, you don't need to select this in AC9 & 10!
