other than using the roof tool is there a way to create a non-vertical column?

There are various library parts you can use. e.g. Basic library9> Building structures> steel structures> Steel sections> Steel columns.
you can alter angles etc.

i have tried quite a few librart parts, but cannot get the columns to rotate, either through the dialog or via elevation or 3D. Tried using RoofMaker>Post2_1; Metals>steel structure> steel sections>steel columns 9> TS Column, HP Column, P Column, etc.; Wood-Plastic>roof construction 9>post. All to no avail.
any other tips here?

Strut 2 may work for you. Strut 1 is a 45° strut.

The inclination angle is inputted in the parameters of Strut 2.
