Display Order Problem

Today I've been noticing that new objects that I add to my project are behind (in Diplay Order) other objects that were previously added to the project. It seems to me that in the past new objects were always on top (in terms of Diplay Order) objects added previously. This is a problem in that new objects are completely or partialy obscured by other older objects as soon as I place the new ones.

I believe that the newest objects should be on top (in terms of display order) of previously placed objects.

What sets the Diplay Order of objects being placed? Can I control this?

this probably doesn't help your cause, but he's a link to the archiGUIDE article concerning the built-in (uneditable i'm afraid) display order index . . .

You can manually send the stuff to front - right click on anything, in the context menu choose Send to ... Also, you can restore the default order.

Between the same types, the last EDITED jumps to front. So, if something goes to back (E.g. you have an object on top of another) select it, drag it in place, that's it.

In your first image your column is on top of your lines. Since your lines belong to Class 2 and your column belongs to Class 4, these lines should by default show on top of the column. So you either brought your column forward or sent your lines back.

This is good to know - however... the need remains for newly drawn items to show up on top of old ones that are on the same stack level. I have just been dealing with a job where I have to bring every new dimension I draw to the front because they are appearing BELOW my walls (so I can't see the tick marks). I must have brought the walls forward at some point, but the "class 1" dimensions still go below the walls. Since they have been drawn more recently, they should appear on TOP, even if they happen to be on the same stack level.

From the article it would seem that text and dimensions should always be on top. That's what seems strange about what is going on. Right now my dimensions in one of my section views are being partially obscured by other objects. This seems strange. I wonder why this is happening?

I almost always want dimensions to be on top of the objects that they are dimensioning; same goes for text and 2D Objects.

It would be great if the stack order was customizable.

Send the offending onjects to the back or at least backwards. Why your dimensions are not being placed at the top level has to be a glitch. Does that happen in all of your plans?

I think that it is a glitch because it is not doing it today. I can't duplicate the problem today.
