topic Detail tool and major crashing... in Modeling

<T>Hello all,

I have been trying off and on now for a few days to generate a enlarged plan with the detail tool. All works fine, until I have to update the view. I am able to generate a view and get the window which I can then change the scale in. You would seem to think this is good... well as soon as I need to rebuild the detail from the source view everything goes bad. Sometimes I get a crash which starts the bug report program...I have been sending these files to Graphisoft.

In the meantime, my project goes to bid next friday and I do not have any of my enlarged plans completed. Is there any type of work around to get an enlarged plan? Can I cut and paste into another file/window. I am not concerned about keeping the link at this point, I just need to get these enlarged plans completed.

Has anyone else come across this major, in my opinion, problem?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Graphisoft suggested to upgrade to 8.1.0 R2 (2284), for another problem I was having. Maybe this is why I am now having these problems.

The file is a teamwork file. My colleague and I are the only ones working on it. I am on a Windows XP Pro machine and my colleague is on a MAC G5</T>

If you are getting the initial drawing then just edit that as needed without rebuilding from the source view.

Or...

Do it the old fashioned way with a different layer for the enlarged plan annotations. You can use a fill to mask the drawing outside the enlarged plan. If the enlarged plan annotations (and mask areas) overlap you may need two annotation layers (and layer combinations).
I know this is quite a bit after your post, but I'm having exactly the same problem, which I was trying to find a solution to when I found this topic. Also sometimes I'm not able to rebuild the detail from the source view, which is dimmed out in the menu (which seems to be happening to others as well see "Rebuild detail from surce view greyed out?????"). It has been getting really frustrating, and I can't find a consistent cause. Anyone else having these problems

It does not work.

Zoom to your view, add additional information on the new layers (e.g. Dimensioning 50 etc), make the layer combo and the Display option, save the view.

Place the views in the PlotMaker.

No, you will not get the automatic callout that you do get with the Detail tool. Yes, you will get your enlarged plans.
But, Djordje, why does it not work?

If I understand correctly what Robert was trying to do is exactly what the detail tool should do; make another view of an area of your plan where you can change the scale and note seperately. Why shouldn't it work? Is it just a bug that I and Robert are experiencing?

Well ... although I still fail to see why we cannot put a detail inside a detail, the Detail tool is not allowing it. It is AFAIU the tool for "true" detailing at 1:10 or larger.

Please discuss the issue with the first Graphisoft developer that comes along ... and let me know the outcome <E>😉</E>

Sorry Djorde But because you were so confident in your answer I thought possibly you knew why it wasn't working.
Neither Robert nor I are doing nested details. At the moment I'm having these problems - crashing, unable to rebuild from source file - while I'm working on 1:50 area details for cabintry and wet areas. But maybe as you mention, it is the scale that might be causing the problem. I might have to do some testing.

We have not experienced the problems crashing from a rebuild of
the source file. I have noticed the problem of the rebuild from source file
greyed out before. The two main reasons I have found that causes this are when someone had copied the detail symbol on the plan and if some one would grab properties of one detail and give it to another. The detail
that recieved the changes would be greyed out. Also reguarding the detail within a detail. It is rather upsetting that does not work. We just
change our layer combination and scale and save a view of our 1/4" plans. Then you have the dummy detail on your 1/8" plan you have to
manually number. The same thing goes for our building sections. We have a dummy detail on the building section so each wall section is done
by the section/elevation tool and then we can have our 1 1/2" details of that wall sections in that section window. Some day they will fix this.
Maybe we could even be able to link a detail to a saved view or the section/elevations instead of just another detail (which is nice).
I have had a battle here b/c of these problems. We have hired a bunch
of new employees that are X AutoCAD users. They are non stop at making fun of the issues we have doing our CD's. They keep telling the bosses we need autocad. They were using autocad 14 (Not even the Architectural Desktop version). You can't compair the two programs. ArchiCAD is a far better product. Any, sorry i guess i had to get that off my chest. I am sure that the next update will take care of these issues.
Hopefully not version 10 upgrade but a 9. something.
