<T>Hi,

I'm new on this site. I have ArchiCAD 9, and I need to make vertical niches in walls and slabs that don't go all the way through (as opposed to an opening in the wall or slab). What's the best way for each?</T>

hi southpaw - welcome to the forum!

vertical niches in walls: there are library window objects that create niches (and other interesting shapes) in walls with punching the hole all the way through. in the window tool, navigate through, or search, your 'window object' directories until you find the 'wall extras' directory.

slabs: using boolean/solid element operations, (Edit>Solid Element Element Operations...) you can subtract one form from another. you can even have the 'target' form inherit materials attributes from the 'operator' form as in this attached screenshot. it's worth having a read through the manual on this if you haven't already . . .
