it drops the origin anywhere there is a node or assumed node at any time. read the value(s) you want in your co-ordinates box.

it's old school and still the fastest way of measuring anything from anywhere. when i see someone selecting the line tool in order to measure something my skin starts to crawl . . .

<T>Ok, so this is probably the most stupid question ever..
I just started using Archicad 11 instead of archicad 9, and I cant figure out how to see the length of the line as I'm drawing?! I know you can measure it afterwards, but this takes a long time and is unaccurate.
In archicad 9 you could press ctrl-r and type in the length that you wanted. How can I do that now??
Thank you!</T>

You need to turn on your "Tracker"

you can turn it on through your Work Environment.
And then you will see your info. To type in the length, you can use "r" or "d", but you dont NEED to type anything fist, just your dimension.

How could you work without the Coordinates anyway? I use the Tracker too, but it cannot replace Coordinates! Not until great improvements are made in it!

And why do you need the Measure tool?!? There are faster and easier ways to measure a distance and they have been there for years!

Measure tool is an illustration that Tracker does not do the job!

Measure tool is an illustration that Tracker does not do the job!

Student: How do I know the distance from point A to point B?

Professor: Press "M" for measure and click the 2 points

VS

Student: How do I know the distance from point A to point B?

Professor: Make sure that you have the coordinates palette open and move the origin by pressing Command+Option+Shift to the start point, then move the mouse to the other point and read the distance. Or select the line tool click on the first point and move to the second read the distance and press "Esc" to cancel the line.

The problem is the "years" part in the comment, we already "Know" but there is nothing wrong to let GS make it easier for new users. I agree that the tracker is not perfect and I have the coordinates on and use it all the time but it can be argued that it has become a "power user" tool. IMO it is easier to press "M" and 2 clicks and sometimes we "older" users have to unlearn stuff. As a bonus measure in spanish starts with the same letter so it is easier to remember.

Also, the Measure Tool (which I don't use often), allows a quick way to get a cumulative distance.

My 2 cents.
