by the way - the degree symbol is usually accessed by pressing ALT and the zero key together, and the square root sign by pressing ALT and V together. the following screenshot was made by holding down the ALT key and typing all of the characters on the keyboard. you could always remember the ones you want . . . and anyway, isn't ALT-0 easy than ALT0178?

archiCAD doesn't support some of the unicode characters, so you may find a few missing from the full set . . .

cheers!
Entering special characters

<T>Hello
Not sure if there is a workaround or something else I'm missing.

Previously in AC8.1, when I needed to type in a special character such as degree or square, I would simply type in alt-0178 or any of the other character codes. I could also copy/paste from the windows 'character map' if I could not remember the code. Pasting from the 'Character map' was however a slower method.

Now in AC9, with it's updated text functions, I have to use the tedious 'character map' paste method.
Is there still a way to type in the special characters (using alt-0178 for example) or do I have to add it to a wishlist for Grapisoft to reintroduce.

regards
Dear Ben
Thanks for the reply.
The suggestion of adding the special characters to ones favourites however only applies to the mac version of ArchiCAD (I unfortunately did not mention my platform as being pc in my initial message)

The use of the shortcuts (alt-0189, etc only seems to be disabled in the text box, as I can still use them in custom dimension text, etc.

regards
