<T>OK I actually found a use for a new archicad function!!!! Consolidate fills! Well i read about it in the manual, and I read in here that i have to load it, But how in the #@&$@#$& do you do that!!!!!!!!! Archicad Ticks me off to no end, all these goodies and stuff, but you have to download this download that install this and install that, add this to that menu. WHAT A PAIN. Do you think the guys at graphisoft could possibly just do all this for us!! Can't i install Archicad and get all the goodies. Why do I have to add them? I guess that people other parts of the world have slow computers, but why don't the powers that be, make everything available, plugins and all, and make those who have slower computers, uninstall the various items. I went to add the consolidate function, and I get this vague title of add on commands in 3d reshape submenu, and that is it. Then I try to add and the add button is greyed out. REal useful. I have already been banging my head against the wall with the whole sketchup to archicad import fiasco. Sorry no mac support! On the GS website, it says use apple, and sketch up, but we don't offer support. HEY Guys at GS WAKE UP and give us useful and installed tools!!!!!!!</T>

Yes, the Goodies are annoying to download. They are also things that not everyone would want or care about.

Yes, part of standard ArchiCAD.

Shae, you need to chill a little bro' - this and your other post suggest too much stress, and I don't know that you can blame AC here.

Mac Leopard users have a plus over all other platforms in that they do not have to get frustrated wondering where Graphisoft put a command like this. Leopard offers Spotlight access to all menus from the Help menu of any program.

Screenshot attached shows entering "conso" and then just hovering the mouse over "Reshape > Fill Consolidation...". Leopard then opens the menu under which the command is found and the little blue arrow circles around to point to it for you. Just click if that's what you want to do. (Disabled in screenshot since no fills are selected.) Big time/stress saver. <E>😉</E>

Cheers,
perhaps it wasn't clear to everyone. I know where it is (or should be in this case) in the menu, so spotlight wouldn't help. It was not showing up in my menu. Due to some crybabies request that you be able to move menus around, it was no showing up when I upgraded and brought up my work environment up from 10. Frankly it wasn't missed until I was looking at manual one night, and thought, wow I might be able to use this feature, and I looked for the feature and it wasn't there. Karl I am on tiger by the way, and it wasn't in my menu so it wouldn't show up. Anyway, I went into the work environment in order to add it, and I found it in the structure where it should be, BUT I couldn't add it. The add button was greyed out. THAT was my question and frustration. Of Course I had some earlier frustration trying to bring in sketch up library parts into archicad. NO I don't have the pro version of sketch up, and being on a mac there is no support for archicad import. I even tried through artlantis, which is supposed to work and it didn't (sketch up to artlantis, to 3ds, to archicad.) and yes I added the goodie ages ago. Both issues are fixed now. I was able to add the command, (I think I had my tongue in the wrong place,) AND I was able to import the parts for with the 8 hour trial of SUpro.

yep. I read that too. Though not necessarily my problem (which now has been remedied) Anyway, good advice to say the least.

My rant/pseudoflame was mainly philosophical. More than often the philosophy has been treats over fundamentals. If we didn't have the option to move stuff around in our menus, then they couldn't be customizable. If they weren't customizable, then we wouldn't have an issue when archicad added a "feature." That is the way it has been for a long time. Someone whom uses drop down menus instead of quick keys (why?!?!) complained that they had to go through a bunch of submenus to get to their command. So AC decided to listen (not sure if this is good or bad in THIS particular case) We then ended up where we are. Do we have a right to complain or not, or are all dissenting opinions disallowed by the all mighty developers quorum. This also reverts to the two competing philosophies. Use the program as intended by the developer, or twist it to your uses just because you can. Anyway, I have kicked my little box of soap to the curb and will stay off it for a while.

laura,

in a word, yes. Actually I didn't choose to customize I HAD to. If we weren't allowed to customize the menu, then I wouldn't have to customize it when a new feature was brought up. It would just appear in the menu. I will say it again for the cheap seats, if we couldn't customize the menus we wouldn't be having this conversation. When you brought a work environment up like we will start doing once a year, you have less downtime. The new features would show up in the menus, the tool bars will get longer (hopefully shorter, IE, SE, E commands /buttons) but in the same "header" position.
