One other item regarding holes in meshes... If the hole is going into an area of the mesh that will not cross or intersect with any other points or contours, then I'd use a hole.

If however it will, I would use an SEO with a slab or something on a hidden layer just for SEOs.

The exception is if the hole needs very specific elevations at the points as an SEO would use the natural slope of the mesh at that point.

My general rule in ArchiCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator and life is to be as non-destructive as possible allowing the flexibility to change your design easily and on the fly with original, noncompromised elements. So in ArchiCAD, SEOs really facilitate this, as well as cover fills. In Photoshop think layer masks instead of deleting parts of layers. In Illustrator think of making compound paths, etc. In life... Hmmm, lemme get back to you as I haven't figured out how to be non-destructive in that aspect yet!
We all heard that from especially Autodesk resellers and Autodesk freaks. But we, users of ArchiCad knows what rules!

Just continue to take jobs from the flatcadders!

By the way, I recommend doing your site with your building pad and basement type excavation this way.
