Hi Matthew,

The window I am using comes for the "ArchiCAD Library 10" which came with AC. Do you know if such dynamic handels, whch you hhave refered to, are available for such Library part?
I have looked in all the availble settings, but couldn't find anything that would rotate the Marker ID.

You have mentioned that one can edit library parts to meet specific needs. Is this something that biggernes could do?

Thanks for you help
Rotating window markers?

<T>Hi all, I am trying to rotate a window marker so that the text reads horizontally instead of vertically as shown in Fig.1. I have looked at the marker setting but the only thing I can find is the rotate check box, which only rotates the markers geometry and not its text.

Any ideas
Thanks
Some markers have a dynamic hotspot that lets you change the angle. This is typically a little green diamond.

When it comes to library parts you are at the mercy of what the writer chose to put into it. If the part you are using can't do what you want you have to find one that does or create (or edit) one to meet your spec.

I just checked the AC10 markers and they don't have any way to free rotate them. If the "Marker direction" parameter doesn't do what you want you will need to try something else.

You have mentioned that one can edit library parts to meet specific needs. Is this something that biggernes could do?

Editing library parts can be quite simple and it can be mind numbingly complex. This one falls somewhere in between. If you feel so inclined (and are fairly mathematical/logical) you should give it a shot. It may be easier to start from scratch. Some of the standard parts are quite complicated in order to be all things to all people. You just want something to do a couple of things exactly the way you want.

First take a look at the GDL Manual to see if it's something you want to get into.

Start by selecting {b]File > Libraries & Objects > New Object and set the subtype to Window-Door Marker.

The symbol part is almost trivial. You just need a bit of text with a box around it. The trickier bit is the dynamic hotspots. You can find information about these under "Graphical Editing" in the GDL manual. If you have trouble you can post the details in the GDL forum and there are many around here to help you along.

This seems to have been much simplified in 10. I just wrote a basic door tag and keeping the text horizontal is trivial. Come to think of it, it may have always been this way. The keys I have written as far as I can remember had to align with the wall or the door leaf - this gets more complicated.

The code for this basic tag is:

DEFINE STYLE "text_style" "Arial", 2.5, 5, 0
STYLE "text_style"

Circle2 0, 0, 0.004*GLOB_SCALE

rot2 -SYMB_ROTANGLE
Text2 0, 0, AC_WIDO_ID

Is this what you are looking for?

In the window settings box,
On the Dimension Marker Tab
under Marker Options
Marker Direction allows you to set the text direction
The arrow button on the right allows you to set the text to be
Horizontal
Vertical
or Standard (text is parallel to wall)

Hi Erika, thanks for you replay. I have looked for the Marker Direction but I couldn't find it anywere under Marker Options.
Are you using a stadard AC 10 Window?

thanks
Habiatuq,
Check which marker you are using. See the attached screen shot. It works the same for doors and windows. Yes, this is a standard AC10 window.
