Composite Wall Types

How do I create composite wall types that have differing materials an heights. I need to create a wall that has 8" CMU to 32" and 4" above that. Do I have to create 2 different walls with different heights or is there a way to change the profile of a wall. I attached a plan and section view of the wall.

The composites cannot do this in a single wall.

You can model this with stacked walls, but it might be easier to make the wall the way you want it to look in plan and add fills in sections and details.

You can use Solid element operation to cut out just a part of a wall.

This has been one of my wishes for some time.

For something like that I have used Wall Surfacer, available at Objects Online.

It was worth the investment considering that many of the buildings I design contain skirting, plinths and cornices of different materials and thicknesses.

I've not seen this object in action ... could you generate cphubb's wall and show us what a section looks like? Does it manage the fills properly and the airspace as in his section?

I just tried the wall accessory, thinking that it might provide a different workaround from the above or solid element ops ... but it has its own set of bugs, in particular, the floor plan view is quite wrong. (And, to get an airspace, you have to use a composite with airspace for the base wall - the insulated wall in cphubb's case - since if you drag the accessory away from the base wall to create an airspace, it gets 'glued' back onto the wall if you add/remove/adjust doors/windows requiring the accessory to adjust itself.)

Cigraph's ArchiWall might be another option (overkill for this simple example). So, I would tend to go towards the solid element op solution unless this 'wall surfacer' object can produce a proper section and plan view with less work.

Here is a sample section using the Wall Surfacer.

The stone sill was hatched using a fill, as the material sections seems to default to the material of the composite. However, the slope and the indent is created using the object.

It is a window object BTW.

These suggestions are all great, but do any of them really work in all view directions? I do not really see the point of all the add-ons unless they work in plan, section, elevation, and 3d(although less important than the first 3). Also are there some people on this forum who have experience woth the plug-ins? I have been unable to find any real reviews or documentation on the various plug-ins. I think we may need to get a few.

When we are dealing with "work arounds" we cannot always automate everything. Inasmuch as I had to use a fill overlay to define the stone plinth in the section, if you want visual accuracy in your plan you will have to add a few more fills.

BTW Chris It appears that your plan view in the sample does not even match the section. It seems that the wall studs have been omitted.......
