Where can I find that stuff? I also need a heavy timber pattern for a roof.

I don't know but I'm about to be in the same boat as my next project is a log cabin. Please let me know if you found anything.

Yes, I did. All you have to do is select the wall > open the selection settings dialog > expend the 'model' section to see a button labeled 'log details'

Know how to cut a section out of the roof? I'm putting a third level patio on a sloped roof but need it recessed through about halfway.

You can use Solid Element Operations for the cutout, using the patio slab as the operator, or just select the roof and draw the cutout within it (with roof tool active) to create the hole. This option displays better in plan.
