Thanks For that Link. But I should have been more clearer. I want to copy from View Map to View Map (drag and drop). No linking or markers. So I can edit it in the destination project and then drag to the layout. Thanks

<T>Hi All, Is there a way of copying an Independent Detail from one project to another with same Reference ID, Name, etc? Trying to save opening up a new Independent Detail window, Typing the same ID/name and then copy/pasting. I want to edit it in the destination project. Thanks.</T>

You can, but it doesn't work very intuitively. You should be able to copy and paste the detail markers just fine, but the problems start when you try and link them to drawings on a layout. If you try and use the Organizer to import the layouts, the <S></S>views<E></E> are not imported and do not appear in the Refer To Drawing dialog, so the detail bubbles have nothing to refer to!

Instead you'll have to recreate the detail views and either place them as drawings onto layouts, or re-link your imported drawings to them.

Cheers,
Copy & paste between two open projects should work just fine then.
Yes but you have to keep creating new Independent detail windows in the destination project to paste to. I was trying to avoid that repetitive step.

Oh I think I finally understand exactly what it is you're doing (sorry - lots of alternatives there). There's no way to copy independent details over. And there's not even any way to copy a source detail marker over with it's contents.

Depending on the amount of projects you're doing this for, and how far they have progressed, it may be easier to create a template with all the details in it and merge the models into copies of your template?

Cheers,
I have all my details only in a separate PLN.(as suggested in previous threads). I suspose you can't just pick a detail and merge. Do you have to have a PLN per detail to work? With module Details is it any different in this situation? Thanks for your help.

When you use the Merge command, you only get the choice to merge the layout book (all of it) or the virtual building (all of it). There is no way to pick and choose viewpoints to merge. You can publish and merge modules of data from one project to another, but this is only the data, not the actual viewpoints (ie independent details).

Can you not reverse the logic as per my last post and merge the projects into copies of an all encompassing template file that contains all your detail info?

Cheers,
Yes that seems to be the easiest answer. Just seems to be overkill. What's holding back Archicad implementing drag and drop details between projects? The Organizer would be ideal for this. Thanks again.

I have a question. Archicad 10.

If I have a master library of details in the firm, Can I just link to them from my project file? I tried to link them from the organizer, but I can't refer to drawing, since I don't have anything to refer to. Is there another option? Merging? or do I need to input each detail to be used into the detail window of the project file?

Thanks,

How is your library organized? Format, etc.? What do you mean by link?

If the details are contained with a pln file and there is a view-per-detail, then by browsing in organizer to the pln file containing the details, you can drag and drop those views onto layouts.

In 10, you can't go much further. In 11, you can create any number of marker bugs (detail, section whatever) that refer back to the placed drawing.
