degenerated polygon error, need help asap!

hi, big problem : when trying to open sections/perpective/axsio, I get this message :

"Polygon is degenerated at line 316 in the 3D script of file D_Frame_Rectangular.gsm"

I can stop or continue - if I continue the same message appears, just with another line number. The backup file has the same problem. Anyone who knows how to fix this??? I'd quite like to have sections and 3D's of my building!

Hi,

You have probably created an impossible geometry in a window or door object. Some of the parameters in some of the objects doesn't prevent you from tweaking the object to crash. If you have no idea of which object that needs attention you can use the marquee tool to check parts of your building to find where the problem is.
Also, put some more useful information in your profile....OS, AC version etc.

How is this done? I'm getting the same message as the OP, and unable to locate the problem.

Use the heavy marquee to select 1/2 of the project in the plan view with all layers visible, then go to the 3D Window and see if the error appears. If it does, select 1/2 of the previous selected part of the project and repeat, decreasing the amount of the model until you can isolate the part causing the error message.

It may be easiest to isolate by stories first.

Since the problem is in a door macro you can try restricting your search to the doors (and maybe windows if they use the same frame macro) which may speed the process. You may even be able to guess which are likely to have the troublesome settings.

A (small) drawback to the marquee method is that elements which cross the marquee boundary will occur in both selections. A more significant problem (when it occurs) is that some modeling errors are affected by whether the 3D is cut by the marquee, though this is rare.

There is also the possibility that the error is repeated in several (or all) instances of the offending part. In this case you may need to reset one to the defaults and readjust to your desired settings (the fixed settings can then be applied to the others using the syringe or favorites).
