Make an elliptical shaped fill and paste it
into the complex profile editor and use the
new profile with the column tool.

<T>is there a way to have a column that is elliptical in plan?

the circular column doesn't seem to allow for different x and y dimensions, and neither do any of columns or "basic shapes" in the library...</T>

You can achieve that by applying a custom profile (an ellipse in your case) to your column.

Since the section of the column is going to be complex (recessed based, top and reveals) I realized I could also make a complex wall profile and then apply that via the magic wand to make a wall from a elliptical polygon. It ends up as a number of curved wall segments, but once they're grouped together it'll work fine.

Thanks again for the prompt replies!
