Drawings disappearing from layouts

Hiya

My drawings keep going missing from my layouts.
This is the process:

1. When I'm in the layout I right click press place drawing
2. I select the drawing and position it
3. I right click to open source view to edit the drawing further (from the view map)
4. I Double click on the layout from the layout book, it updates automatically
5. The drawing box is still there but to my dismay it is empty.

This only seems to happen when I edit within the views, it doesn't happen if I switch back and forth between layout book and view map without editing anything. Any change within the view seems to trigger the drawing to regenerate as an empty box within the layout.

Any suggestions?

Guess:

You have started with a map or a DWG site plan where the origin is very far from the content. Try repositioning the lot, close to the origin.

There are lots of things that could do this (poor mousing could result in you moving the drawing within its frame. Opening the drawing settings and clicking the Fit Frame To Drawing may give some insight into what is happening).

The other thing I would add is: Is every single parameter associated with the saved view (layer set, pen set, model view options, scale, bla bla, etc) correct and properly assigned? Lots of people don't get the importance of this step....

But let's not pretend there is not a bug that affects this. 3D windows in particular are very prone to just going blank. Sometimes the drawing is there, it has just gone to an invisible pen. Sometimes a relaunch of AC fixes it. The bug was there in V10 and continues right along. Because this mostly effects 3D Views this is probably a topic for a separate post. Unless Olivia's missing drawing is a 3D view?
