Is it possible to save a plan from Archicad 11 to open in Archicad 9?

No. AC 11 PPC only allows saving as AC 10. So, you then need AC 10 to open the result and save as AC 9...

I just skipped from AC 9 to 11. They really should have made it save back at least until 9. No other way to do it?

Not that I know of. 11 can open 9 projects though.

concerning what things are 'lost' when you save an AC 10 project back to AC 9 as well. I'm not really sure why one would ever want to do that though...

Moving old projects forward from 9 and earlier to 10 and 11, you might want to look here:
