<T>The large sloped roof plane was used as operator in order to cut the small dormer. Though in plan the dormer does not look cut. I want the blue lines in picture to show in plan. Not the lines created by the now incorrect hot spots. -thanks</T>

SEO's do not show correctly in plan.

Instead, with the roof tool active, select your main roof, CTRL-click (CMD-click) on the edge of the dormer roof you wish to trim off, and it will intersect correctly. It might pay to undo / cancel SEO's first.

Not an automatic thing !!

Solid Element Operations are not displayed in Plans...

but still if u want it.. u can go to 3D cut away... with internal Engine... and copy and paste the 3D view " after setting that to Parellel top"
I'd go with S2art's method! Although you don't strictly need to be in the roof tool any more. Then you can also use the pet palette subtact option and the magic wand to lose the (main) roof under the dormer.

Cheers,
mm..yes i guess in this case its easier... but in general for SEO..3D cut away is the only available solution...at least thats the only solution that i know
hmmm... There must be something to the dormer that I can't see here... Cuz, it would make much more sense to replace the dormer with REAL ROOFs and use standard roof joining methods. If there is a FACE wall to the dormer, I'd just add it as a wall (with window, if needed)..
Select the main roof , then put your cursor over the dormer roof line so it changes to a Mercedes then ctrl-click and it will shhot out to match the other one .
...then....

Simply edit the outline of the lower roof to match your design intent... (hole for the dormer if there is actually useable space inside the dormer)...
