drawing an archway

<T>ok, i'm relatively new to archicad, but i pretty much know my way around. I'm trying to create and archway on the exterior facade. It needs to be 1 foot wide and project from the exterior face of the wall about 9". i did this by drawing a wall, then using an empty doorway with an arched opening in it. no problem.
problem;
in elevation, this 12" wide 9" deep archway "band" needs to continue being 12" wide all the way around the archway. meaning, i need to figure out how to put an arch on the outside of the arched opening i created, leaving a 12" thick band archway.
i dont know if this is clear, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

or maybe im going about this all wrong. maybe i need to use columns and an arched beam. i dont know, im lost</T>

Clear as mud to me. Maybe a little hand-drawn sketch would clarify what you want to do.

You could do it this way, or create a complex profile matching your shape and use with the wall or beam tool, the length of which would bethe depth of your arched band i.e. 9".

Or would columns and the "Shell 11" object suffice?

You can do this with a single object using OBJECTiVE. You can make a custom profile for the arch, use it to cut the hole in the wall, and even fit it to a curved wall (see the attached images).

You can see how this arch is constructed step-by-step by watching the first example movie on the product page: <S></S>http://www.encina.co.uk/objective.html<E></E>

It's free for anyone using the educational version of ArchiCAD.

Yep, you can do all kinds of amazing things with GDL. OBJECTiVE is trying to make these things as visual and dynamic as any other element in ArchiCAD, i.e. something usable for the average designer
