topic Copy / Paste from AutoCad in Modeling

<T>I am trying to import a 2-D drawing from AutoCad so that I can trace the plan in ArchiCAD. How do I get one simple copy/paste with all the AutoCad layers combined into one simple layer in ArchiCAD. Each time I try I am instructed by the copy/paste dialog to use the ArchiCAD layer. However, once pasted the data cannot be re-selected as a group and pasted to a working layer (2D IMPORT), except by selecting line by line, object by object from the ArchiCAD layer and pasting to the 2D IMPORT layer....... this method will take forever!!

There must be some way to quickly combine all layers and import with a simple copy/paste.

Once I have completed tracing the 2D IMPORT layer it will be discarded.</T>

Seiss,
You can X-REF in the DWG file. It will give you all of the, layers, line types etc, btw the layers of an X-refed DWG are defined by the name of the DWG and a vertical line followed by the actual layer name,
of the DWG but once you have finished with it, you can do a simple detach.
When detaching the DWG, you will be given an option to keep or to delete the attributes of the DWG file.

You can find the X-REF manager under the Modules and X-Refs menu, which can be found under the file menu of ArchiCAD.

HTH

Cheers.
