how do I create columns other than 90 degrees to the slab.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which type of columns in which version of AC?

You have some library objects which may solve your problem.
You may also see this topics where some solution where "linked". http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=6944
You may also use the "search" fonction of this forum which certainly give you some other solutions. This forum is a golden mine if you take time for searching.

Not obligatorily

You have some angled columns in AC Library. May one can solve your problem without using GDL.

You could also try using the roof tool.
