Bring it in a sa library part.

If you want the 2D plan to be seen in 2D, then bring it in as a 2D lib part - one of the options in the DWG import/merge dielog box.

If you want the 3D, use File/GDL Objects/Open object, choose DWG as a file type, select the correct Translator (watch the units!!!) and save the object.

Hope this helps?

<T>Hi guys,

New to Archicad, I am looking to try and replicate the picture below, I need to show new buildings next to existing ones on a plan view from an imported .dwg file. When I create something and view it in 3D view the dwg isn't shown?

How do I get the plan drawing to be shown in 3D ?

Any help muchly appreciated.
i thing that you must save the plan from the 3D window
Search in the forum ,Somebody else already asked the same
Here it is archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=8886&highlight=dwg

Thanks but I've done that already. Just the 2D dwg isn't shown in 3D view along with the 3D model, I need it to be almost a background from which the 3D models rise.

I think your best bet on doing this is saving the dwg as an image, and applying it to a slab, or carpet object, similar to this: <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... allignment">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=8239&highlight=texture+allignment</LINK_TEXT>
(it seems like I've posted a link to this thread about a dozen times in the last week)
Strange, but new versions of AC do not translate all ACAD's 3D information. Especially 3D poligons and planes. A sillly bug I suppose!

A workaround:
1) If you have an older version of AC, v7.0 or older, open the .dwg in it. It should pop out.

2) Save the .dwg from ACAD as .dxf R12 and then open it in AC. A trick from AC 5.1. The result is many triangles but works

Only 3D items will show in the 3D window. Arcs, lines, fills etc do not.
