This tool is very powerful for designing show case or such like thing.
Similar things can be done with profile-manager.

I have an array of posts I need distrubuted 4" o.c. along an curve, any suggestions?</T>

Rotated multiple copies?

It's not perfect since the displacement interval is linear.
Ask for more copies than you need.
Once you specify "increment" and begin the distribution gesture, use "D" to enter 4" in the tracker. Throw away the extras.

There was an add-on for distributing objects along any curve. It was there back in AC9 and written by Oleg from Arexline. A really helpful tool that went into oblivion!

Perhaps in AC14 there will be something like it as a common tool...

Using your the special snap, set distance to 4'. Put your local origin where you want to start your increments from and then when your cursor is on the arc, tic-marks will appear at 4' intervals measured along the arc. You will be able to place your columns at the tic marks.

The trouble with this is that, unless they are round spindles, each one will have to be rotated tangent to the arc.

The best trick is to combine your method with Dwight's and Multiply by increment along the arc with Special Snap Points set by Distance to 4".

Wow, that is one powerful multiplier tool. I just read the manual, and I guess the obvious question is why the hell hasn't GS incorporated that kind of thinking into the current version o f ArchiCAD? Especially now that Arexline seems to be defunct. If it wasn't, that's one Add-on I would most definitely buy today.
