Layer Combinations, specific view-sets and much more tools.

For example, create a layer for existing walls, walls to be demolish and new walls and then create layer combinations and view-sets for every drawing you need. You can include notes, dimensioning and 2D as long as you create specific layers for it.

<T>Hi.
Firstly I'm quite new to ArchiCAD. I'm a university architecture student and working at a small (2 people) building design office. Currently we use VectorWorks for all our drawings and ArchiCAD to create 3D views/renders. We are looking to start producing all our drawings in ArchiCAD. However I've hit a bit of a snag.

The majority of our work is renovations & extensions. For council approval, we need to submit drawings for both the existing structure and the proposed structure. Is there any way to create the existing and proposed in the same file, so that one can be used as a reference during the design process, and enable all the drawings to be generated from one file?

Thanks</T>

There's another way using two files - as-built and proposed - but hotlinking the two together. It's described as option 4 in this article:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.aecbytes.com/tipsandtricks/2 ... hicad.html">http://www.aecbytes.com/tipsandtricks/2008/issue26-archicad.html</LINK_TEXT>

I've used this method and was very happy with it. Eric bobrow, who wrote the article has also created and sells a master template that has all the layers and layer combinations set up properly as well as layout sheets and more. It's pretty good - more here: http://www.bobrow.com/

Just like in the days of paper and pencil it is a hassle and inherently more time consuming and tricky. The suggestions above are excellent and you are to be congratulated for getting your firm to use one tool rather than two (and Vectorworks is such an odd choice if you already have AC. For all the bitching I do about ArchiCAD, the one thing it has going for it is great connection between model and documents). Good luck.

I am also new to archicad and fumbling my way through a bit.

I have set up existing, demo, and new layers for text, dimensions and walls.

I am running into a problem.

If I have a wall on the new layer that overlaps a wall on the demo layer ,which is turned off, I end up with a hole in my new wall. It is trying to reconcile I suppose or automatically clean up the intersection.

I need to stop this from happening. Any ideas?

Please DO NOT post the same question twice, already answered on the other thread.
