It sounds like you need to adjust the offset of the wall in your wall settings. I'm assuming you are drawing your walls with the 2x4 as the "core"? Give that a try.

<T>I am very new to Archicad. I have drawn a floor plan using a wall that is made up of a 2x4 stud, air space, and brick. I need to take out 1/2" from the air space. When I change the composite wall it moves the inside of stud out... I need it to move the outside of brick in. Is there any way to change which side of the wall moves. I really don't want to have to change the wall and then move them all in... it is a fairly complex floor plan.</T>

I beleive you should be setting the offset in the Wall Settings to the thickness of the Brick. Save as a Favorite.

jpwku00 wrote:
I am very new to Archicad. ... I really don't want to have to change the wall and then move them all in... it is a fairly complex floor plan.

The key is that when you draw a wall, you are really locking down the 'reference line' and everything else grows relative to that. To change that behavior, use the 'modify wall' menu as described in my three posts and screenshots here:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... 4856#54856">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=54856#54856</LINK_TEXT>

(which I should turn into a wiki article at some point...)

See also my warning here:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... 2919#92919">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=92919#92919</LINK_TEXT>

and Ben's posts earlier in that thread, with screenshots.

Cheers,
