SO MY PROBLEM WAS WITH THE WAY I WAS TRYING TO SHOW THE TOP AND BOTTOM PLATES IN SECTION.
I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS BEFORE.

THE WAY I SHOW THE PLATES IS TO USE FOUR TRIANGLE SHAPED FILLS THAT DON'T QUITE TOUCH SO THAT I SEE THE "X" WITH A RECTANGLE AROUND IT IN SECTION.

I THINK WHAT I DID WAS MAKE THE SPACE IN BETWEEN THE FILLS TOO SMALL.
IT WASN'T A REAL FRACTIONAL INCH, IT WAS JUST ENOUGH SO THAT I COULD SEE THEY WEREN'T TOUCHING WHEN I WAS ZOOMED IN AS FAR AS I COULD BE.

SO, AFTER 3 HOURS OF MESSIN' AROUND WITH THIS DAMNED WALL I WAS DOWN TO THAT AS ONE OF MY LAST OPTIONS. FIDDLED WITH IT A LITTLE BIT, AND NOW IT IS BETTER.

<T>I HAVE THIS PROBLEM:
I AM USING COMPLEX PROFILE WALLS FOR MY FIRST AND SECOND FLOOR EXTERIOR WALLS.
YOU'LL SEE IN MY ATTACHMENT THAT ONE OF MY WALLS IS SHOWING IN PLAN LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO AND IS CLEANING UP THE WAY IT SHOULD. BUT, IN 3D AND IN SECTION IT IS GONE.

IF I DON'T CLEAN IT UP TO ANY WALLS IT SHOWS UP.

AND I CAN PUT A DIFFERENT TYPE OF WALL THERE, LIKE A COMPOSITE WALL, OR JUST AN EMPTY WALL AND CLEAN THEM UP AND IT WILL SHOW.

AND THIS IS HAPPENING IN ONE OTHER PLACE IN MY MODEL.

HELP!
I'M GONNA FREAK OUT HERE.</T>

Well, I have at least figured out that it is my Complex Profile that is causing this problem.

I copied the whole floor plan into a new archicad file just to see what would happen. When I did, the walls I was having the issue with showed up fine, and two more walls now had the disease.

Now, back in the original file, if I delete the problem walls all together and put even two different complex profile walls in their place they work ok if they aren't cleaning up to the problem profile.

SO

If any one thinks they can look at my complex profile for me and tell me what I have done to it that would be super.

Please?!

Jesikuh, I am very interested in what other methods people are using to show framing in section. I'm working on one now that uses objects I've scripted (plates, studs, headers etc.) They separate and show nicely in section. Is there a reason that you would use triangle shaped fills instead of a couple of lines? I brought all this up because I haven't found a good wall framing tool and am looking for ideas.
Lines can only be used for drafting purposes within the complex profile, and hence do not show up in section. I presume he uses four separated fills so that they don't all heal when they touch. If you use different opposing fills (such as air space and empty fills), there's no need to include a space.
Thanks Link. I haven't used the complex profile yet so forgive my ignorance. Can't lines be used within the section view and maybe be brought to front in the display order to show the same way the fills do?

Yes, in the section window we can embellish with 2D elements 'til the cows come home. The point with complex profiles is that the detail is part of the wall, so that when we cut a section through it, the information is already there.

I remember first alpha testing complex profiles and suggesting to GS that it would be wildly valuable to allow us to include full 2D embelishments as part of our complex profile, including even labels and dimensions. So that when we cut a section or a detail through the profile, all the information was there and no further embellishment would be required. Obviously it would need visibility control and allow for further editing, but I think it all got too hard for them. Or maybe it's just another silly idea!
I guess the need for "Work arounds" will exist for some time to come. I know I was disappointed to find that I had to use lines, fills etc. in certain situations to make my sections look the way I wanted. I've also found that a little scripting knowledge can go quite a way in making this task easier.

Since it is not possible (nor even desirable) to have dedicated functions for every possible task that everyone wants to do, there will <S></S>always<E></E> be workarounds (enhanced methods?).
Of course this would be very cool stuff, but it does raise some much larger issues. 2D overlays, drafting in 3D, symbolic section & elevation views...

First I just want clean sections that don't separate all dissimilar fills with the section outline pen.

I was explaing the complex profiler to a co worker earlier today, while I was explianing how different fills don't clean up to one another, and how the same fill cannot touch itself- IT DAWNED on me.
You are totally right.
