<T>I have an interesting question, I'm trying to draw a wall with a composite, but I want half the wall to be one height, and the other half a different height, is this possible or do I have to draw two walls next to each other? to Give you a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish I'll explain the scenario; I'm drawing a poured foundation wall, with a brickledge, so the wall is a total of 10" thick, but I need the inside 6" of concrete to be 9' tall, but the outside to be 8' tall? is this possible? any info would be appreciated.
Hello -

I have always put two walls next to each other, or used the profiler tool to add a brick wainscot. I am not sure but you may be able to use SEO's to do this but that is beyond my limited knowledge.

well I can do it with the SEO, but it just seems to be too much of hassle, and I just can't be bothered doing it every single time. I wish there was a way to define a wall by actually drawing a cross section profile, and then defining materials / hatching, etc. not sure if theres a big enough want for a wee feature like that to make it worth graphisoft's (or someone elses) time to program a plugin for it though.... or then again for all I know there could already be one
We have the whole "Tools" package.

The Wall Accessories are really cool for MODELING, but need some improvement in pen selection and section fills. Only 1 pen in elevation and 1 fill in section does not cut it for a brick wall with a pre-cast sill and siding above.

The product models the situation BEAUTIFULLY, but the line weights don't look so great....

thanks for the info,

just to clarify, if this was the section, are you saying Id be able to model that fine, but will it look decent enough in a plan view to give to the construction crew? and how bout in a photo rendering? although I suppose that wouldnt matter too much, since it would be hidden for thew most part...
The section view looks mediocre, since all the materials have the same crosshatch. The plan view does have excellent control, with independent plan view settings.

Renderings look great with it. You may have to trace over lines in elevation or add fills in section to really use it for construction documents.

thanks again mate,

I'm going to buy the software, but I've gotta bug you one more time, and just show you exactly what I mean, so that I'm 100% sure we're on the same page... the pictures below are the 3D view, and plan view of the same wall, I made this wall using SEO's, and then put the SEO operators on they're own layers, and hid them... the cutout through the foundation heighth wall int he middle would be for a doorframe, notice that it looks fine in the 3D view, but you cant see the cut in the plan view. also, the only way i was able to show the ledge in the plan view was to create a composite with two different hatching... so hopefully you understand what I'm talking about and you can be a pal, and give me that last wee bit of reassurance before I buy
I'm no expert on this but we have used the Wall Accessory tool under the Extras menu to achieve an exterior wainscot of stone or brick thickened lower portion of a wall. I believe the thickened portion becomes an attached object to the composite wall you define, but not sure.
Did you find the Cadimage tools easy to learn? The documentation is pretty slim. I'm learning by trial and error at a time when I have none (time that is). A tutorial would be helpful, but I don't think they have one.
I didn't have any problem picking it up. I worked my way through the manual while working in a blank project, so I could experiment. I spent maybe an hour or two getting the hang of it. The only staff here (out of 20) who have had problems are the same ones who have problems with doors, windows, and other objects with LOTS of parameters.

We actually set up a couple "typical" conditions, then used their "save object defaults" tool (from their Object Tools) to save the default settings to the Wall Builder.

I also didn't have much problem picking it up. I think it is a help if you are a trial & error kind of learner. I ran into a couple of things I couldn't figure out on my own and emailed CadImage and they were very helpful. I just got word an undate is coming out shortly which will add trim under window sills on the exterior ( something I've always wanted ) and that it will work on curved walls which is something it doesn't do yet. All upgrade patches are free.
