To give credit where it's due, I believe that Graphisoft have given us the tools to do this job quite well with profiled walls and beams. That wish is very old and AC 10 now copes pretty well with facias, cornices, friezes or entablatures in my opinion.

To have a specific tool for all the less common parts of the building would become very cluttered and I feel that it's better to make more imaginative use of the modelling tools we have. <S></S>The best tool in the tool box is usually the one that gets used the most<E></E>.

i have been trying to sort out which way is the most efficient way of creating proper eaves with timbers, facia, fibro board etc for a residential house so that when i do a cross section the eaves will be accurate. Any help would be appreciated thanks.</T>

Not odd at all - I believe it's the best way to go. It allows creation of rebates and chamfers etc.

Once the facias and soffits are in place I use them to cut the rafters using s.e.o. because the rafter objects never seem to terminate in the right place to begin with. I make similar cuts using beams as purlins and wall plates so that by building up the elements like this the resulting sections need little or no 2D "adjustment"

Profiled walls can only be level, but you can use an inclined profiled beam.

Agreed, the tools are there. ... and I think fascias are a pretty common part of buildings, at least those that have roofs.
I'm not wishing for a new tool.... just a new feature for an existing one (roof).

Yes I understand and I agree that it would be very good to have more functionality within the roof tool. It is a little basic as very few roofs are just an inclined slab.

I would like several enhancements including the ability control the roof surfacing and edge profiles. The roof surfacing accessory does some of this but the availability of different surface profiles limits its usefulness and it is impossible to create custom ones unless you happen to be a very experienced GDL programmer.

Other features for the roof tool could be the ability to create box gutters, lead work flashings and, as you said, fascias and barge boards.

Is all this an existing wish or should it be added to the list?

Here's a novel idea......extend the ability to use custom profiles to slabs and roofs..... It would solve two long-time wishes we have had.

BTW I use a beam profile for fascia, soffit, eavestrough and frieze. I can cover most conditions just by drawing with a beam.

So if you are using saved profiles (Say a 2x12 Fascia & a 1x6 Step Fascia) to create a fascia detail at the eave, can the saved profiles be rotated for a Rafter Square cut? Or do I have to save a different profile for every different roof pitch?

I was attempting to use the Cadimage Profile Tool in AC9 but I ran into the problem of having to create different profiles (Fascia) for each Roof Pitch. Also the "Clean-up" with the gable end was not correct.

I looked at your pictures on the other post. It looks as though they are rectangular in profile.

If I was modelling these I would probably just use the roof tool because it's the quickest and it gives an accurate result in plan, section, elevation and model. The extra time involved in creating a custom profile is, for me, only justified if the profile is complex, like a classical plinth or such like.

Until we have a more versatile roof tool which can model edge details and profiles, that would be my advice.

If you need more complex cuts at the ends of your fascias, could I suggest looking at an add-on called Objective.
