you can turn it off using the visibility icon in the info box customisation dialogue. if you are using archiCAD 9, this can be found in your work environment settings (see attached). using archiCADs below this it can be set somewhere in the Options>Customisation menu (i think!) but i can't actually recall whereabouts exactly.

i believe that people do use the log wall function. and with a bit of lateral thinking it can be used for a whole host of other applications (james b help me out!)

by the way - it would be useful if you put your machine/archiCAD specs in your post somewhere to get a better response . . . your signature file would be a great place.

cheers

<T>Why does Archicad insist on having a log wall feature in the wall settings! especially when they put it in the Info Box? Has anyone (in the world) ever used it anyway?!
I'd like to remove the button from the Info box, as i do not use it and it is a waste of space. I'm not aware of any way to customise the info box though. Has anyone done this?</T>

Thanks! I hadn't seen that in the Work Environment... It is also handy to be able to re-order the attributes

Has anyone (in the world) ever used it anyway?!

You must be kidding! This is used by a lot of people, not least of all, the many log home companies throughout North America and Canada. And probably by many more if they knew what it could do. If anything it should be further developed (eg. to be used in curved walls, have the log height from from project zero, etc).

As the number one Ben alludes to, you can use it with your imagination for railings, simply by making the spacing greater than the width of the wall.

To answer your original question, yes it is being used by people around the world!

Cheers,
I've used it on occassion to model drainage tile reducing the height to just one log high with the width matching the tile diameter. It serves a useful purpose even to those of us who only once in the while get to model a log home.
No - I won't be removing this button. I work for Yellowstone Log Homes and we live by that button. I would LOVE to see further development with the log options.

I am currently fighting the element list options trying to use the log walls. I'll get to it.
