Is this update of 44 Meg just an update to the existing AC9 or I can delete the entire Graphisoft folder and install this patch only?
I also have multiple renamed AC9 on my computer.
You could try rebuilding permissions or deleting prefs but you probably have done that already.

You could try rebuilding permissions or deleting prefs
This was the hint of the german support. This has no success.

But this works:

The patch program does not check, if the files, which have to be fixed essentially , are available in the expected folder. We have renamed the original file names "ArchiCAD" to "ArchiCAD9", "Plotmaker" to "Plotmaker9" and have moved the library out of the program folder. While the other files have been patched the executables kept in Version v1. This caused the error.

I would recommend GS, that patching programs should test the existence of the necessary files before changing the complete installation.

Now it works fine - I hope.

Just a word, why we rename the program files: If you switch between Tasks by Command-Tab or in the dock just the plain file-name is displayed. If I have opened more than 1 AC I have to guess or to try which Task is the ArchiCAD to which I want to change.

The installer works as simple as this: it checks what files you have, and replaces them with new ones.

Therefore if you have no files, nothing will be installed. If you don't have ArchiCAD.exe, no ArchiCAD.exe will be installed. If you don't have PlotMaker, no PlotMaker will be installed, etc.

If you have multiplied the ArchiCAD executable file only, then you have to make new copies. If you have multiplied the whole ArchiCAD folder, then you can patch them one by one pointing installer to the respective folder.
no. it looks only for an app called "ArchiCAD". you should know that you no longer need to duplicate the entire archiCAD folder in order to run several sessions of archiCAD - just the application file itself.

so - what you can do is delete the entire second folder and then make copies of your <S></S>updated<E></E> "ArchiCAD" file in the original folder . . . make sense?
For laptop users it is important to be physically connected to the primary network of the laptop for the patch to work correctly. The java based installer checks domain authorization and possibly will determine a failed trust relationship between the laptop and the primary domain.

Graphisoft is working at removing this check from the patch installer and hopefully will relax this requirement in the next week, but in the meantime laptop users should be aware that they need to be connected to apply the patch.

If a laptop user has unfortunately already applied the patch while off-line or on a secondary domain and determined that AC no longer runs, the only remedy we have discovered is the following:
0. Connect to the primary network of the laptop
1. Uninstall ArchiCAD
2. Reboot
3. Install ArchiCAD
4. Reboot
5. Run ArchiCAD
6. Reboot
7. Run Patch
hey ed!

i take it that for solo laptop users (like myself) with no network authorization, that the 'primary domain' <S></S>is<E></E> the laptop's own system and there will be no problems . . . ?
Ben,
If your laptop or computer does not have a login to a network with a domain server then you are okay. More importantly, when the original install of AC was run there was no domain authorization going on with any of the installed files.

To be absolutely sure. Login into your laptop as "Administrator" and of course you will then have to use the password that Windows gave you or to which you changed the password for the user named "Administrator" (note this is not a user name with administrative rights -- this IS the administrator for your laptop.). As administrator the patch should run without any trouble.

Work is being done on the installer of the patch to relax this authorization requirement and most likely a new installer will be put to our update site within the next week or so. If the errors corrected by the patch are not absolutely vital to you, you may wish to wait until a new installer is uploaded.

Hope this helps,
Is it possible that the same problem happens to a desktop user where the primary DNS and the whole server in fact was changed since the original 9 installation? One of my colleagues here had a mysterious failure of the patch on XP, office network, and this info prompted me to think this might be a reason. Greg has the info.
Yeeeeeeee, this hotfix - fixed some older bugs but generated some news. For example in polish version including bug in meander, other problem is animation with lightsworks engine, when placed some library parts with alpha chanell. All bugs are in polish version of these paths.
Yes the problem is the same. Domain problems. The method is somewhat similar to the laptop. You must login as "Administrator" of the desktop machine. Do NOT login into the network. Re-install ArchiCAD from CD in the similar fashion that the laptop user must.
I just ran the update in the help menu and updated Archicad 9 now it will not start up. It gives me an error message:

Application Launch Failure
The application "ArchiCAD" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "T<ArchiCAD><ArchiCAD><ElementManagerLib><IsInMarki__Q23EDB11GeneralElemCFPC7SelTypes>"
